Read moreI’ve literally just gotten in from a late birthday dinner at Nascosto with my best friend but we had such a great time I couldn’t wait to rave about it.
Service was incredible from the second we pulled into the parking lot. There’s free valet parking on the weekends that I wasn’t aware of, so I had already started backing into one of the few spots in front of the restaurant before the valet quickly waved at us to let us know he could valet my car if I wanted. I was already halfway into the spot so I politely declined and finished parking on my own, but the valet was so sweet and funny saying encouraging things while as I finished parking. He directed us to the restaurant and bathroom entrance when we arrived and greeted us goodnight on our way out. I only wish I asked for his name!
We arrived about 30 minutes early for our 7pm reservation but we were seated immediately. The ambiance inside the dining room was immaculate, dimly lit but not too dark and beautiful modern decor.
We absolutely loved our server, Remi! He was so kind, accommodating and walked us through all of the featured items in addition to any questions we had about the menu. He was so knowledgeable about the restaurant’s background, menu selection and honestly made us feel like we were chatting with a friend everytime he came by. Remi was consistent in checking in on us without ever hovering and we never felt like we were being rushed - overall made us so comfortable and made the entire experience that much more enjoyable. Another man who we believe was the owner also came around to all the tables and checked in with us twice to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, which I feel is a rare experience nowadays and was very much appreciated.
We were started off with warm bread paired with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread wasn’t too dense which was a pleasant surprise because it’s easy to fill up on bread before meals. We ordered the feature pizza (mushroom/truffle) and the artichoke hearts to share - both absolutely delicious. The base sauce for the pizza was a delicious creamy mushroom truffle sauce and the pizza was topped with sliced mushrooms and thin slices of speck that added a nice saltiness to the otherwise rich pizza. The artichoke hearts were nice and tender, deep fried with a light crispy batter and balanced out with a lemon aioli and pesto. We tried the ravioli pere e gorgonzola and the mafalde ai funghi for our mains - both also super delicious. The ravioli was served in a light butter sage sauce and had small chunks of pear that added some freshness to the pasta. The mafalde was rich with freshly shaved parmesan and several slices of fresh truffles. Remi surprised me at the end of the night with a birthday tiramisu which was so light and not too strong on the espresso which is how I prefer my tiramisu!
I honestly never write reviews this long but we were both raving from the moment we sat down for dinner and throughout the drive home. We cannot say enough good things about Nascosto. From the service down to the food, everything exceeded expectations and my best friend and I have resolved to make this one of our regular girls’ night dinner spot. We can’t wait to come back, thank you to all for such a...
Read moreWow. There are some special things about this meal that are hard to duplicate. Well done, Nascosto, for a fantastic dinner.
We had a party of 5. We ordered 2 antipasti, 3 pasta, and a secondi. The meal was reasonably priced for the quality and venue.
Burrata: One of the better Burrata's i've ever had, but that pancetta chutney? Bury me in that. I could spread that on an old hockey card and enjoy it.
Fritto Misto: Pretty standard. The sauces were very nice, and the batter was crispy till the end. I don't even like calamari, but I ate this one. Nice peppers, very good chili sauce.
Paccheri Guanchale: Rich, full of flavour, a real ragu that leans heavily on the richness of the Guanchale and holds back on tomato. Paccheri tends to go a bit flat, but it stayed firm right to the end.
Gnocchi: Gnocchi is gnocchi, right? Some people like them pillowy soft, some people like the with a firmer bite. I'd say this one was in the middle. Nothing amazing, but the gnocchi itself was done nicely.
Veal Special: I never got to taste this one, but the guest who ate it said that it was very good, but he just wanted more.
Filletto: That steak is basically perfect in just about every way. Right amount of char, melts in your mouth, i could cut it with a fork, and the arugula puree was a complete showstopper. Wow. I never would have thought that it pairs so perfectly with the beef. I was impressed. The accoutrements on the secondi was a bit pedestrian, some flaccid, lukewarm onions and smashed red potatoes that didn't really add to the dish. Sure, it's meat and potatoes with a veg. I think this dish can be craveable if the onions and potatoes were either replaced completely or done with a bit more flair.
All in all, 4 out of 5. Great spot for romantic dinners or a quiet get-together with family. Clever name considering the location. We will...
