*UPDATED: I used to visit this restaurant occasionally after a positive first experience, but Iām updating my review after a recent disappointing visit. We ordered the glutinous rice sweet and sour pork, and halfway through the dish, we found a small white piece of plastic. At first, we thought it might be a bone fragment, but upon closer inspection, it was clearly broken plastic. We informed the server, who seemed flustered and vaguely apologized, offering a small discount on the bill. We didnāt finish the dish, concerned there might be more plastic pieces in the batter. In the end, they gave us a 10% discount.
In my opinion, finding plastic in food is serious enough that the dish should have been replaced entirely. On top of that, after a nearby table left, the staff sprayed cleaning solution heavily on their table while we were still eating, and the strong smell ruined my appetite.
The food is generally good, and the staff are friendly, but the basic standards of customer service were lacking during this visit. I used to like this place, but now I understand why its Google rating is lower than expected. Unfortunately, I donāt think Iāll be returning.
"Recently revisited this restaurant despite concerns over recent negative Google reviews. However, my experience exceeded expectations. We ordered a set menu, and the dishes were overall impressive. The sweet and sour pork was made with glutinous rice flour, giving it a nice texture and flavor. The seafood in both the crispy rice soup and Palbochae (stir-fried seafood and vegetables) was fresh and generous. Jjajangmyeon served on a large plate was slightly bland, while the chili pepper stir-fry dish had too many bell peppers and was underwhelming. Ordering was convenient through a tablet, and the servers were friendly. I would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWeāve been visiting this restaurant at least twice a month for the past 10 years or so, They recently have changed ownership, And in doing so they have made quite a few negative changes. To start they only do a cash discount if your bill is over $100, This is very deceiving because they actually have a sign that says if you pay in cash, thereās a discount (I donāt remember if itās 5% or 10%). The second last time I was there, I paid in cash and after reviewing my receipt, I noticed there was no cash discount, When I asked the owner, he said that the bill has to be over $100ā¦. OK, thatās fine, I asked for my cash back and paid with a card, but itās still strike 1, strike 2 Was last Sunday, We ordered a white seafood jjampong (not spicy), Without exaggeration, it had two small pieces of octopus leg (About an inch and a half long, And 2 cm width), And 1 musselā¦.. Blasphemy. When I addressed this politely with the owner, He stared at me with a blank faceā¦.. No explanation or apology. I told them this was the last time we would be back here, politely. There is a place a couple of traffic lights west of this place, Itās called ķ“ė£ ė°ģ (Sunny Dragon Restaurant), their food is superior Now that this place really stinks. If you donāt know anything about korean-chinese food Then you might be fine with this place, But if you know what good food isā¦. Stay far away from this place because you will be disappointed. I would like to thank the previous owner for a great 10+ years., I donāt think this new owner will survive much longer at this rateā¦. He clearly has no business skills. Rule number #1 of taking over an existing business is to not make any drastic changes at the very beginning, implementing changes should be done slowly. Iām sure this place will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDuring my recent visit to this neighbourhood, I decided to revisit The Great Wall, a restaurant that once held a special place in my memory. Although there were glimpses of the good old times, I believe I need to update my rating. Gan Ja Jang: This dish has always been my personal favourite, and I was pleased to find that it was as good as I remembered it. They skillfully fried the black bean sauce, infusing it with the distinct smoky flavour that's a hallmark of the Chinese cuisine. The noodles were served separately, allowing me to adjust the amount of sauce to pour on it. It was rich and savoury, and had a lot of sweet, crunchy onions. It was overall good. Kan Pung Ki: The Sunday special, however, fell short of expectations. Deviating from the typical preparation, the chicken tasted more like Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), with the crispy chicken barely stir-fried with the sauce. Also, some chicken pieces were overcooked, resulting in an unpleasant crunch. It seemed there wasn't enough attention paid to the dish, which was disappointing because the restaurant wasn't busy at all. The restaurant's atmosphere was generally pleasant; the interior was well-kept, and the background music was at a comfortable level. The washroom could have been cleaner. A cash discount of 10% was advertised, but it required a minimum spend of $50 that I didn't reach. The server was efficient. While the Gan Ja Jang still shone with its robust flavours, the Kan Pung Ki was a letdown. As a previous long-time patron, I left feeling that the quality had declined. I still recommend the black bean noodles, but it will be some time before I consider a...
