Note: I've only had counter service here, and not yet dined-in.

While almost everything here contains sugar in dangerous quantities, it's just all so good that you can't help but keep coming back... and the super-friendly staff really make that choice an easy one.

ALWAYS take a number though, if you don't want to be caught waiting!

This place is busy all the time, to the point where if there's a lineup and it's off-season, you might want to come back in 30 minutes or so. Not because the staff are slow( they're QUICK to serve you! )but that the customers tend to take their time, picking this and that and then this and maybe... well, you get the idea. You can't really blame folks though, since there's so MUCH variety to choose from.

I tend to prefer the smaller treats, like the hazelnut puffs or chocolate half-moons, which are great value for the money: $10 will get you a dozen of these delicacies, which go over really well as an office pick-me-up. You can also get cakes( whole or by the slice )along with a variety of baked goods - watch out for the rare special sale for REALLY good deals.

I stop by every few weeks to pick up something for the people I work with, and it always makes their day. While it's often busy here, the staff are really great and have excellent suggestions if you're not sure what to try.

The Dutch Bakery is a Victoria institution, like a few other places, and it's worth your time( even if it annoys your dentist )to drop in to treat yourself, or...

Ordered a wedding cake from the Dutch Bakery. We painstakingly went for tastings (we picked raspberry filling) and emailed our concept to them to ensure they have all the details they needed and paid a 50% deposit on the spot. A couple weeks later we realized we got no confirmation from them about the concept of the cake (i.e. colour, type of filling, and other decorations) and followed up. They said they "have no record of this cake ever being ordered" and we were stunned. We quickly searched through our paperwork and found the date, the amount paid, and a confirmation from the baker, all of which were magically forgotten. We sent that along and then they found the paperwork. With that ordeal (mistakes happen) in the past, we looked forward to our wedding cake. A couple days before the wedding, we went in to pay the outstanding balance. They again had some difficulties finding the paperwork. We confirmed all the details and paid and off we went. The day of the wedding arrives and the cake is ready, picked up, and was delivered to the venue by one of our guests. We were super excited about it as it looked great! The only thing was that when we finally got to eat the cake, it was vanilla and not raspberry filling. Everyone loved it so it all went OK, but I guess that little detail was lost somewhere in the...

Wonderful, nostalgic bakery and coffee shop serving amazing pastries. A Victoria tradition since 1956. The staff and table service here are consistently friendly and wonderful. I usually stop in for pastries with coffee or tea and it's like going back to the 50's for awhile (well...what I imagine the 50's must have been like). I also drop in to buy cake or pastries for special occasions and to purchase chocolates at Easter & Christmas. They have a bit of a cult following at Easter and the day before Easter Sunday is extremely busy and usually lined up. They have the larget selection of Easter molds on the island and you can get everything from Rabbits,, chickens, lambs, and ducks, to more whimsical characters in race cars, in formal Easter dress, and beautiful large chocolate eggs brightly decorated with icing and marzipan. The half and half mini eggs are delicious (half milk, half dark chocolate). They make great vanilla slices, apple strudel, hazelnut tarts, and a huge number of yummy pastries. If you're visiting Victoria you definitely have to stop in at least once. Reasonable prices and...

I've loved this place since I was little, can never just walk pass the window and if I do I'm guaranteed to circle back and go in. This was one of those days, I was being an awesome 'Aunt' and took my bff's girls out and we couldn't pass the windowđŸ€Ł Don't let the outside fool you (like everything good) this place is deep inside so be prepared to not be able to make a decision Lucky numbers, lucky them! Got them a quick treat to share, sat outside which wasn't the best idea because now we have to buy more to take home 🙃 EVERYTHING is delicious!!!! Service is a hit and miss because they're so busy but for the most part it's pretty simple. Order, Pay, get out and stuff your pie hole and be Happy 😋 A must when or if you're in Victoria, B.C

The Dutch Bakery and café in Victoria has been my goto place for lunches, pastries, and a great cup of coffee for more than 30 years. I've been coming here since before I was born even, it has spanned 3 generations of my family coming here for breakfast, or lunch, or a cup of coffee and a piece of sacher torte or lemon meringue pie, or. My grandfather who came here for a dollar roll and tea. As long as it is here, I will continue to come for the coffee, a sandwich and pastry, and the great staff. Did I mention the staff? They are great, friendly, and sometimes a little sassy which is a welcome change from other café's in and around the Victoria area.

The mocha slice was pretty good, with lots of nutty flavor and a hint of mocha—nothing overpowering and very balanced. The Black Forest cake was a bit too rich after a couple of bites. If you prefer light whipping cream or mousse desserts, it might not be a perfect fit for you. However, overall, it was pretty good. Edit: I visited again today. Their strawberry shortcake was good—the cake was a bit dry, but the strawberries and whipped cream tasted good. However, the Black Forest cake tasted way too rich, like lard. The cream didn't taste like fresh whipped cream or butter, more like shortening. I recommend only the strawberry shortcake.
