Short: good place to grab a bite and coffee
Long: I think the atmosphere suffers from the location, across the street was a guy smoking crack with his pants down at the now spirit Halloween west coast waffles. And on the inside is a hip coffee joint with really nice service. It’s pretty clean inside, and you can see the prep station, everything is healthy even if some of the sandwiches are small, I think the drinks are great but the food seems over priced for what you’re getting, but that’s on par with other cafes. The food waste however is absurd. The prep station is right there and not only do the staff need to watch a quick YouTube of how to cut with a knife to protect their fingers, they should also watch a video on how to cut veggies without throwing large portions away. If the food cost is so high that you need to have tiny sandwiches - then the cost is happening at your prep station. If you’re reading this. You were cutting red peppers. You know who you are. Yikes. At any rate, the service is great, the staff are friendly and well mannered even tho they are right downtown and that’s a hard place to deal with people, so good on them for being so cheerful and professional. My other note for waste cost is don’t double cup your drinks. Cups cost. If it’s so hot, purchase new cups, or get sleeves at a reduced price. The planet with thank you, and hopefully you won’t see a loss. With all the businesses closing down in Victoria because of cost, it’s pretty easy to save when employees arnt throwing away cups of veggies and stacks of coffee cups.
4/5 will go backs. Have gone back. Appreciate all the hard...
Read moreFood: Unfortunately, my decaf oat latte was undrinkable. It tasted burnt and stale. I went up and asked about the beans, if they burned them like Starbucks does, mentioning it didn't taste good. The barista didn't offer to help, just said, "It's dark roast." I asked for some chocolate syrup to be added, thinking that might make it palatable. It didn't help. (Dark roast doesn't equal gross.)
Service/atmosphere: I came in at 2:30 on crutches, wanting to rest and enjoy a coffee, aware they closed at 3. The staff mopped and sprayed around me, put chairs on tables, and were visibly impatient to get me out, although I left before 3.
I haven't felt this unwelcome in a cafe for a long time. I know its the end of your workday and a long day on your feet, I've been there-- but if it says you're open 'til 3, why treat your clients like they shouldn't be there in the final half hour? I also understand the desire to finish closing duties early, but please be aware it's awkward for guests to have the shop closing up around them, especially if it's paired with a...
Read moreThe girl taking my order was polite & friendly. The food was definately sub-par. The toasted sandwich I ordered was barely warm... not crisp like toasted it should be. For $11 I expected a lot more of each filling described on the menu. If the owners spent 50 cents to make this I would be surprised. When my order was ready, I just got hollered at by a number. I had to get up twice as my drink and sandwich were ready seperately. My sandwich was wrapped in a foil bag & tossed on the counter with no word of thanks or even a smile. The staff were more interested in talking to each other than creating a friendly atmosphere. I had high hopes looking at your menu. I was willing to let the very worn floors & poor seating options slide for a good sandwich. Its just a sandwich after all. Even Subway makes a better sandwich for less money. Have you seen a sandwich from The Red Barn? Step it up Rise and Grind! Take look at what your competitors are doing. I will not be back. Poor...
