Extremely subpar new restaraunt in Victoria. Food was greasy and bland, service was extremely slow and had to ask them several times to give us more menus as we only had 1 to share between the 4 of us. Eventually the people sitting next to us just gave up one of their menus to us. No drink menu, or vegetarian options on the food menu. Sushi was super tiny and a 13$ roll. The chicken teppanyaki tasted like gasoline I thought that was weird. I will say it might be just because they’re just starting to figure things out, so I would give them a bit of time before coming in to eat here. Maybe 6 months to a year, would be a good time frame for adjusting. Overall, 65$ meal left disappointed. This restaraunt still needs a lot of work to be good. I probably won’t come back, as there are many other good places in Victoria that I know and love. Wish them all the best though.

Dropped by Taisho Uncooked for a chill evening and it was a solid experience overall. Had a Sapporo—super smooth and light, just right. They had happy hour going on, which made it even better. Tried the chicken karaage—it looked great but could’ve used a bit more flavor. Maybe it’s the more traditional style, but I’ve had versions with more kick that I personally preferred. Now let’s talk about Eric—one of the servers. Super sweet, really handsome, and just had this calm, welcoming energy. He recommended a peach drink that totally hit the spot. Honestly, he made my evening. Didn’t catch the name of the other server, but she was kind too. Would go back… especially if Eric’s working 😏

Paid $17 for just the salad (which included a small tip). I was unable to get clarity on whether you have now cut down your serving sizes while charging the same. I've ordered the Avocado salad over a handful of times both eat-in and take-out. This past Wednesday I ordered one to go and the container was substantially smaller and had less than half the normal amount of greens and 1/3 of the lotus chips. I mentioned it to their lovely staff who were kind enough to provide me with more greens after explaining what I've seen as the 'old standard'. Not interested in returning very often to businesses that do this, hopefully it was just a kitchen error.

It was an unfortunate experience for my first visit here. The appetizers came after the main course and we were told it was because they were really busy. They accidentally gave my mother-in-laws main dish to another table so she had to wait for another. My own dish was uncooked chicken (visibly raw), so I sent it back. After 30 minutes of them ignoring my table I waved my arms up in the air to flag them down to ask where my meal was. I was informed they had forgotten about it. I asked for it to go because at that point the rest of my table had eaten. It was poorly packaged and the sauce leaked everywhere resulting in a bland tasting dinner.

UPDATE: Taisho had me back for dinner and it was amazing! The servers were attentive and the food was flavorful...

They’ve been open 2 weeks, they are awaiting their liquor license, and they are building their business in their new community. We went last night for a test drive of this lovely place and we’re not disappointed. Incredibly warm and welcoming staff. Prompt service and advised that all beverages would be alcohol free as they await their license. We had simply tempura and sushi for an easy meal. Fish is fresh and melt in your mouth. Flavours beautiful, prep was top notch. Tempura light as air, crispy and not the least bit greasy. Value for dollar exceptional. Let’s support this new addition to our food scene, I think it will be spectacular! Welcome Taisho, we are glad...
