UPDATE Thank you for your response. How fascinating that instead of reflecting on constructive feedback, the instinct was to defend and deflect... even taking the time to comb through my review history. How flattering that you cared enough to research me. 😉
For the record, nothing about my review was personal. I love pointing out great food and outstanding customer service wherever I find it; it’s part of why I write reviews in the first place. This one, however, was written not in anger but in disappointment... the quiet kind that appears when you expect Mexican soul and are served only lukewarm sadness.
Your reply speaks louder than your food. Passion belongs on the plate, not in the comments.
After reading several other experiences (yes, I researched you too 🤪), it’s clear mine wasn’t an exception: dry, overpriced food; defensive, ROBOTIC replies to 🙏🏻every🙏🏻single🙏🏻low🙏🏻review🙏🏻; and even an unacknowledged claim of glass in someone’s beans?! 😱
There is promise in your space, but hospitality begins where ego ends. I would adjust my review to Service to 1/5, not for the food alone but for the unwillingness to listen, but I had already given it a 1. This place struggles to get feedback.
Authentic flavor needs no defense la buena comida no se defiende, se demuestra. 🌶️ Next time read the reviews without chile(rage) in your eyes.
This will be my one and only update for this place. 😘
Original Review May 2025 For over twenty bucks a plate, I expected a warm, thoughtful dish, something with flavor, maybe even dignity. Instead, I was handed dry, soulless half reheated tortillas (clearly from a bulk bag), eggs that tasted reheated from a previous era, and beans that were... fine. When “fine” is the highlight, something’s gone terribly wrong.
There are two parts to this place: the food counter (a culinary tragedy) and a small adjoining café (a flicker of redemption). The woman working the food counter was cold to the point of hostility...señora jetona. I spoke to her in Spanish (at a Mexican place, mind you) and she looked at me like I’d asked her to solve a math equation with her soul. Rude, distant, and frankly, a terrible ambassador for a cuisine rooted in warmth.
Then there’s the man at the café (the husband, I think) gracious and welcoming. He offered a decent coffee and proudly said all pastries were made in-house. The muffin I had was okay. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
A suggestion: why not feature one traditional Mexican pastry a week? A concha, a peanut polvorón, maybe a fresh piece of pan de muerto in October. Something that reminds people that this is supposed to be Mexican food, not a faded imitation.
Now, my vegetarian friend loved her egg tacos. Bless her soul. But to be fair, she’s never been to Mexico, has lived her entire life in the island and wouldn’t know a real taco if it salsa’d into her dreams. I’m glad she was happy...but her food bar is different.
Would I return to the café? Possibly, if I’m already nearby and feeling patient. Would I return to the food counter? Not even on a dare. Twenty-three dollars for two sad tortillas dunked (and some.how still dry) in unseasoned red chile, two overcooked (probably reheated) eggs, and some beans? That’s not fusion. That’s daylight robbery.
Still, don’t take my word for it. Go taste it yourself so you, too, can pay top dollar for disappointment...
