I'm actually extraordinarily offended by how I was treated when I walked up to the door this evening. You know, it's fine if you're legitimately busy and full, but let's be real: you guys didn't have anybody worth a number of folks in your restaurant (or it was the quietest crowd ever!!)) and there was no one seated/waiting outside, there was nothing happening, the place was not jumping, parking was a breeze despite being limited. I was told that I couldn't be seated because an hour was "not possibly long enough" for me to dine which I could have lived with, albeit it sounded preposterous given the situation, but the point at which I got offended was this hostess suggested to me I could go eat at the pub next door. Excuse me? You know for as fancy as you guys are acting you as actually would have been my cheapest meal this trip so far, but that's fine I wanted to eat at Araxi again anyway. I initially put them off because I heard this place was apparently a good place to go and planned accordingly since they were closed Monday. But you can absolutely bet your bottom dollar that I'll recommend that this place clearly this isn't worth your time, because it sure wasn't worth mine. And if they want to be a fancy restaurant and make themselves a reservation only, they should make sure that that's well advertised because then I might have made more of an effort to have obtained a literal (unnecessary) reservation ahead of time, but I'm not going waste my time with that now seeing how they act. The hostess put on a big show of surprise like OMG does it NOT say that?! No. I've provided screenshots, I'm not wrong, lady. If you don't walk up to that door and look like you have money and you don't look rich, expect to be treated terribly by them, and that is what I took away from this establishment. That woman should be ashamed of herself for trying to embarrass me and also just to let her know: I'm not embarrassed for me but I am embarrassed for her to recommend someone who wanted to eat at their "bougie" establishment should eat at the pub next door, that's absolutely shameful to make that leap if your place had any real class. You might also note that there was no one around to witness this so like, try embarrass to me so harshly for what, ma'am? You're not better than me and you recommending the pub when you have empty seats just proved it - how pathetic and sad. You can enjoy the pub yourself when you get off work in 3 hours, how about that?
Call me spiteful if you wish but I decided to go out on a limb and give them a call from where I was staying at Aava Hotel to see what their availability really was and as it turns out they easily some availability this night. I spoke with Karen on the phone, was it the hostess? Not sure. Skinny shorter, brassy fake blonde, older lady was the one I dealt with. So long story short don't waste your time here, why spend your money somewhere where they think they're too good for their own customers? And for the record I've given more stars to a restaurant that gave me food poisoning because their service was outstanding. BTW this was a Tuesday night during off season in 2022. Hardly booming.
Another update: as a matter of fact I did go to Araxi, who did find a table for me immediately despite being quite busy and I had The. Best. 3 course meal and wine. Money BETTER spent. Please see my review for the fabulous Araxi in the booming HEART of Whistler Village and not on the outskirts that you have to bike or drive to. Araxi appreciated my $150 single-table-seated butt. Too bad you guys didn't. And if you guys took issue with something about my appearance or dress, maybe next time, just say that. You made yourselves look incredibly uncouth and I'm still not recommending you guys all these years later. Updated review since I'm headed to Whistler soon and recalled maybe I should eat at the pub since maybe she was doing me a favor and recommending it because the food was better AND cheaper? It's definitely...

As it says in the name you’re greeted by a red door to enter!
Inside you’re met with warmth and dim lighting. It feels like a late night before Christmas as you have drinks and catch up with old friends.
We’re greeted by a warm smile and nice conversation.
The restaurant is cozy and the kitchen is open like its mama cooking for you. The chefs were calm and quiet as they seamlessly executed service.
We ordered a lot of items so here’s a quick overview with my personal ratings. For starters: Mushrooms & Polenta: 9.7/10 Right up my alley, texture was phenomenal, flavours all combined perfectly on the palate. Duck Confit Spring Rolls: 8.8/10 Crunch, savoury, the red currant and puree had me constantly going back for more. Delicious. Onion Tart: 7.5/10 Wasn’t my cup of tea per say but the rest of table loved it! Blue Dungeness crab cake (special): 8.5/10 This was on special so you might not be able to get it but it was fantastic. Had some peoples eyes rolling into the back of their heads from enjoyment!
Mains: Cascade Mountain Steelhead: 9.8/10 This was my main and wow wow wow the plate was gone in 1 minute! The savoury lemony beurre Blanc paired with beluga lentils could have been a soup alone and I would have wanted 4 bowls. The Steelhead seared to perfection and the apple/fennel salad on top adding a dash of freshness. Absolutely fantastic and would recommend. New York Steak: 9:10 Amazing cut of meat, can’t really go wrong with a classic. Decent portion sizing! Sakura Pork: didn’t get to try but they absolutely loved it. Venison: same for the venison didn’t get to try but they loved every bite.
My only complaint would be the sliding placemats on the table are quite inconvenient, and it did get very hot in there being so cozy!
I came in thinking it was just going to be the same old French cuisine and not done creatively.
I left presently surprised and a customer for life. The service was flawless, the food fantastic, everything met expectations or even better, the atmosphere hitting just perfectly.
I will be back again, thanks...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to try The Red Door Bistro last summer to see why it was getting so many glowing reviews. The place is tucked away next to the Nita Lake Lodge. We came on a warm summer evening and were promptly seated on the patio.
I ordered the steamed mussels and braised chuck flats and my wife ordered the duck confit springs rolls and bouillabaisse. The mussels were prepared very well in a white wine broth. Nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. The braised beef was tender and delicious and came apart easily using just my fork! I only needed the knife to cut the fingerling potatoes smaller! And as good as my food was, the two items my wife ordered were even better. The duck spring rolls were incredible with fantastic flavours! I've had a lot of bouillabaisses and this had to be one of the best. The seafood was absolutely perfect. Tender and flavourful and not overcooked as some restaurants tend to do (I'm assuming to be conservative). The broth was fantastic. I literally would go back for a bowl of just the broth and a big loaf of French bread to soak it all up.
Service was very good as well. Our water was refilled regularly and our server was very attentive, checking in often to see how our food was or to offer to bring us additional drinks.
Overall, it was a great meal! We wouldn't hesitate to drive up to Whistler from Vancouver for the evening just to have...
