Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Truly Bangalore, an exceptional vegetarian Indian restaurant nestled in the heart of Oshawa/Whitby. From the moment we stepped in, it was evident that this place was something special. The restaurant's decor is stunning, with beautifully arranged tables and tasteful decorations that create a warm and inviting ambiance. The gentle strains of Indian music in the background further enhanced the relaxing atmosphere, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. We started our meal with a delectable Masala Puri, paired with a glass of Masala Maggige. This drink, a spiced yogurt blend, was a revelation. Its unique flavor, a perfect balance of creamy yogurt and spices with a hint of heat, was so captivating that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. It's one of those rare beverages that you just can't get enough of. For the main course, I opted for an onion/tomato dosa. Cooked to perfection, it was wonderfully crunchy and packed with flavor. Every bite was a delight. Despite not being a vegetarian myself, I found the vegetarian offerings so satisfying that I didn't even miss the non-vegetarian items. My wife and I decided to try different desserts, and while my fruit salad was fresh and very delicious, the star of the night was her Falooda. This dessert was indescribably good—truly heaven in your mouth. It’s something everyone needs to try at least once. We ended our meal with a cup of masala chai tea, which was the perfect finish to an outstanding dinner. The tea was aromatic and rejuvenating, rounding off our dining experience on a high note. What sets Truly Bangalore apart is the attention to detail in every aspect. The furniture, the dishes, the cutlery—everything is thoughtfully chosen and arranged with love and pride. The quality of the food and the level of service are exceptional, rivaling high-end establishments. Despite the top-tier experience, the prices are surprisingly affordable, comparable to fast food chains like McDonald's. This combination of quality and value makes Truly Bangalore a hidden gem in the region. I cannot wait to return and indulge in their culinary delights again. Truly, this is one of the top restaurants in the area. Do yourself a favor and visit this fabulous place—you won't regret it!

Truly Bangalore is a hidden gem that brings the vibrant flavors of Bangalore straight to your plate. As a foodie with a penchant for authentic experiences, stumbling upon this culinary haven was an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped in, the warm ambiance and welcoming staff set the stage for a memorable dining experience. But it was the menu that truly stole the show. Offering a diverse array of Bangalorean classics, I found myself transported back to the bustling streets of my hometown with every bite. Starting off with the quintessential South Indian delicacies, the dosa and vada were nothing short of perfection. Crispy on the outside, yet delightfully soft on the inside, each bite was a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate. Paired with a refreshing glass of Lassi, it was a match made in culinary heaven. But the culinary journey didn't end there. The crispy and flavorful bajji was a revelation, perfectly complementing the tangy and aromatic pineapple kesari bath. Each dish was a testament to the chef's dedication to authenticity and quality, showcasing the rich tapestry of flavors that define Bangalorean cuisine. What truly sets Truly Bangalore apart is its commitment to preserving tradition while infusing each dish with a touch of modern flair. The attention to detail, from the sourcing of ingredients to the presentation on the plate, is evident in every aspect of the dining experience. Whether you're a homesick Bangalorean craving a taste of nostalgia or a curious foodie eager to explore new culinary horizons, Truly Bangalore is a must-visit destination. Prepare to embark on a gastronomic journey that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you longing for more. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

First thoughts: The place is quite small but has an amazing ambience. Their timings are great for people who love tiffins all day long. The location on Google maps shows the complex on the other side of the road and this place doesn’t have a big enough sign board so we found it hard to locate it. Hits: The flavours are amazing and took me back home to my ‘Adigas and Paakashaala’. The sambar and coconut chutney are delicious. Their attention to hygiene and cleanliness was evident. The prices are not bad and the service is fast even during peak time. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the dishes on their menu. Misses: For the starters it would be beneficial if they mention that reservations are required on Google and their website to avoid people driving from Toronto just to wait 30-40 mins. I love my dip idly and vade and although the flavour was great, the quantity of sambar in it, doesn’t qualify it for a true dip idly experience. And to top it off the extra sambar is chargeable which was a bummer for us. I would recommend they atleast provide one cup of sambar complimentary (if asked for) to anyone who takes dip idly vada to have that authentic bangalore experience. If ‘Truly bangalore’ folks see this, one suggestion would be to have a mini tiffin option atleast on weekends for the likes of us who want a little of everything to feel being close to home. All in all it’s totally worth the hype and I hope the team maintain the flavours and prices unlike some of the other places we have seen in the past that go downhill eventually. Would I drive to Whitby from Brockville for 2.5 hours to just have my Sunday brunch? Hell YEAH! If they maintain these flavours and improve on some of the misses.

Restaurant Review: Truly Bangalore

Nestled in the heart of the small Town whitby, Truly Bangalore is a delightful homage to the rich culinary traditions of Karnataka. From the moment you step inside, the warm ambiance and friendly service set the stage for a memorable dining experience.

We embarked on a culinary journey, starting with the Idli Vada, which was nothing short of perfection. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and exuded a subtle tanginess, while the vadas were crispy on the outside and wonderfully fluffy within. Paired with coconut chutney and sambar, each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that transported us straight to breakfast in a bustling South Indian household.

Next, we indulged in the Podi Thatte Idly. This unique dish is a must-try for anyone who appreciates a bit of spice. The idlis, coated in a fragrant podi (spiced powder), were bursting with flavor. The nutty, earthy tones of the podi complemented the idlis beautifully, making it a standout dish that left us craving more.

The Ghee Paper Roast was a visual and gastronomic delight. This massive dosa, crisped to perfection and generously drizzled with ghee, was a sight to behold. Its thin, lacy edges were crunchy, while the center remained soft and flavorful. The aroma of ghee wafting through the air was simply irresistible, and it paired exceptionally well with the accompanying chutneys.

Moving on to the Mysore Masala Dosa, we were treated to a classic that lived up to its reputation. The dosa was perfectly spiced, with a rich filling of mashed potatoes and aromatic spices. The layers of flavor were enhanced by the tangy chutneys, making every bite an explosion of taste. It's a dish that encapsulates the essence of South Indian cuisine, leaving you wanting just one more bite.

Finally, we savored the Onion Rava Dosa, a crispy delight that was both savory and satisfying. The caramelized onions added a sweet touch, enhancing the overall experience. The texture was delightful, with a perfect balance between crunch and softness, making it a fantastic way to round off our meal.

In conclusion, Truly Bangalore is a gem for anyone looking to indulge in authentic South Indian cuisine. Each dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor, and showcased the rich traditions of the region. The attentive service and inviting atmosphere only added to the experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this restaurant is a must-visit for a taste of Bangalore’s culinary heritage. We can’t wait to...

This place is located in the GTA, one of its kind, that serves Karnataka style food, the ambience and the location is great, the kannada menu boards the decor and attention to details is amazing. It would be nice if they played kannada music to set the vibe. We ordered 4 dishes between the two of us. The prices are standard for a south indian restraunt. Portions are good as well.

the staff is very kind and polite. They do have a lot of people working unlike a lot of indian places that understaff and the service staff is exhausted just running arround. The staff were very attentive and did tend to every request we made.

The food:

Idly Vada: the idly was one of the best I have had here, it is soft moist and fluffy, the vada was good, it was just warm, but it did taste good. The chutneys were great too, but the star of the show was the Sambar in true darshini fashion. Would come back for the idly. Masala puri: 4/5 the reason for the visit, it was fresh , tasted good and a rare find in the city. Itwas served warm, the gravy could have been hotter ( temperature) and the balance of sweet and spice was good.

The chalukya style masala dosa:5/5 A truly bangalore style dosa, thick and crispy on the out side yet soft and moist on the interior, it was buttery and everything you would expect from a masala dosa.

Honey Cake: 5/5 soft spongy sugary, served on a newspaper, everything that reminds you of the bakery back home. the Jam topping had perfect tangyness. The honey cake is kept in a glass display cooker , where as honey cakes in BLR Are typically kept at room temprature. (cooling of the cake solidifies the fat used in it, making it a little tough than it should be.) it was more of a texture thing than taste.

Suggestions: *Having a breakfast thali on weekends would actually let people try a little bit of everything. *Please add akki rotti if you already dont have it on the menu *Would look forward to a lot of bangalore bakery clasics in the future

The place is must visit if you are a bangalorean. It does take you back to...
