Kristina's was nice on the inside, though clearly more casual fine dining as the napkins were paper and it overlooked a gas station and a Motley Crew of individuals breezing by with everything from latte's to bags of groceries. It's located in Corydon Village and the characters can be entertaining to watch, though it soon becomes obvious that they can see you too. We went on a slow weekday afternoon and were served by who seemed to be the owner (Kristina, possibly?) as staff just started to arrive as we were leaving at just about rush hour. We started with spanikopita which was full of flavour and freshly made. You get 3 pieces served on a plank. Next was salads. Their caesar was also very delicious, though I found a small black hair in mine, certainly from the cooks arm not his head... accidents happen, no biggie. After the salads came the entrée. We arrived at 4pm and got our entree' at 5:15. If we didn't have to be somewhere by 6, I wouldn't have minded. I actually loved that they served true courses and didn't just slap all your food down at once. I had chicken neptune which was around the $27 mark, so I expected it to be outstanding. I soon realized I paid for the ingredients more than the preparation as the chicken was dry and hard to cut through and the sauce on top was clearly broken - coagulated cream in a small pool of butter. The potatoes had a spice to them that made them taste strange, my husband agreed. He had the Gyro, it looked good. He was pleased with his meal. I think his was around the $16 price point.
I can imagine part of the allure of Kristina's is the Corydon Village experience. They have a patio area for dining in the summer but it was still closed as the season hadn't started yet. I can imagine mid-high prices and (very) long wait times for food being ok if you're sharing a bottle of wine on a busy, warm summer evening on the patio doing some people watching, but on a chilly slow weekday before staff arrives I'd probably venture elsewhere. We probably won't go back just because of my chicken. I think asking that much because it has crab in it is no excuse for serving it in such poor condition. I didn't bother to complain, we read reviews while we were waiting for our food and read someone else was told "if you don't like it...." so we just never bothered to say anything. Plus we couldn't afford to wait another hour for a new dish.
Pros: Nice owner, desserts were yummy, coffee was freshly made for us. Waiter was on his toes and really nice. Appetizer was very good. Cons: Pricey, would be worth it if the food was cooked to perfection. Slow weekdays in the cold season I would discourage for...
Read moreIt was a special occasion so the restaurant was busy, but we had to wait for 30 after our reservation time before being seated. We were a party of 10, which is big, but should be manageable for an established restaurant.
Once seated we were offered paper menus (as some members of our party couldn't read the menu on the website) but after 20 minutes without menus we gave up and decided on what we wanted from their website. We had to flag someone down to even take our drink order.
Service was slow or not at all as our glasses sat empty during the bulk of the wait for food. Once the food finally arrived (for some of us) it was cold or overcooked. It would have been nice to all eat together, but the food was getting colder and more dried out as it sat in front of us, so we had to go ahead. Half the table was done eating before the food came for the other half and one person didn't get their meal at all. When the server saw that someone didn't have a meal she asked the person to "remind" her of the order assuring her that it was almost ready. The whole table now finished eating sat waiting for the final person's plate to arrive which took another 15 minutes. The rest of the restaurant had cleared out by the time the last meal arrived with the exception of what seemed to be friends/family of the staff. As an aside, it did appear that those tables got good service. I guess you have to know the owner to get decent service.
I have eaten here before over many years and had both good food and good service, but those previous experiences have been overshadowed by this terrible experience. Besides a half-hearted apology for our table not being ready when we arrived, no one working there seemed to even care how terrible the service or food was. It was so disappointing, I don't think I would even...
Read moreWent here yesterday for Brother in law birthday. Did research and it had some hype behind the establishment. I was pretty excited to give it a try as a foodie myself. The server was very good he is good at his job very knowledgeable and aware as he was the only server for the night. I am also assuming that on a Wednesday night they didnt expect to do much business. But our apps calamari came and for the price I have to say it is very small. I ordered the chicken neptune and for a 20 dollar plus dish I expected to be full after. After 1.5 hour of waiting for our main course my chicken was maybe enough for 4 bites barely had any shrimp and crab stuffed in it. My wife ordered the Shrimp diablo and that was also a 20 dollar dish and it was not worth 20 dollars. I understand where Kristina's is trying to go with upper scale dining but 20 dollar for a small piece of chicken 2 potato wedges 2 cuts of carrots and a piece of broccoli is not going to cut it. I was very upset for the value it is not worth the food. It could be a off night the food when eating you can tell was very rushed and was not given love and care it deserves. On the menu it said my chicken was breaded but the chicken wasnt even breaded. I was expecting to be blown away but instead left and having to pick up more food on the way home. On trip adviser is 42 out of however many restaurants but I don't believe it deserves that title. But I will say that the sangria is very good. I most likely will not return again unless something drastically changes not going to pay 80 dollars for 2 people and leave disappointed. Its just...
