The High Tea Bakery is a Winnipeg treasure. I have a weakness for fine pastry and have been lucky enough to indulge in the most sophisticated afternoon teas and the best patisseries in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, San Fransisco, Vancouver and Montreal. High Tea Bakery in Winnipeg easily rivals the masters. Their lemon tarts feature tangy lemon sweetness nestled inside impossibly delicate pastry. Their pretty macarons are fresh, chewy and bursting with flavour. They feature a variety of extraordinary cookies including their signature raspberry and almond flavoured “Imperials.” Their decorated special occasion cookies, like their Christmas cookies, are stunning works of art so beautiful, it’s almost a shame to eat them. But even among these superb High Tea classics, one special confection stands out: the petit four is a superstar. Petit fours, tiny little cakes individually wrapped in fondant, are as difficult to make as they are to find for purchase. High Tea’s petit fours are extraordinary. They use tender white cake infused with a layer of either lemon or raspberry filling, enveloped in rich fondant and embellished with elegant decorative touches. These are not just the best petit fours in Winnipeg, they are the best petit fours ANYWHERE (they are also often the only petit fours in Winnipeg). These delicate jewels are...
Read moreCame here to buy some gifts and stopped in to try their cookies. It's a warm, inviting spot with a variety of different seating on the second floor. The person serving me that day was not very friendly (this was not service with a smile), but was very professional and assisted me with everything I needed.
My favorite was the decorated with icing cookie. I think it was a sugar cookie. I could see myself having that with tea all the time. 5 stars I should add, I'm not usually one for this kind of cookie, so it has to be done well for me to like it.
Their imperial cookies are also done very well, I'm just not a fan of almond extract. If you like it, it would probably be a 5, but for me I just don't. It's too strong of a flavor.
Chocolate Peppermint sandwich Loved that it was like an after eight in a cookie form. Still, I need to be in the mood for this cookie. If I am it's a great choice
Ginger molasses cookie peanut butter oatmeal chew cookie I prefer mine softer and larger. These cookie type was a flatter more dense version. Flavors on it were good. I wouldn't choose these for myself, but if you like that kind of cookie then you'll enjoy them.
Raisin chew I liked this texture but I'm not a fan of raisins in my cookies. This choice was my friends
Parking was available in front of the building for free...
Read moreSmall cute bakery with limited seating (go upstairs). They have kind, friendly staff who can help you make selections. Service is limited to the counter where you order, pay, and then you bring your purchased items to your seat. They have various sweet cookies, a butter tart and sweet scones. They don't have savory or yeast made baked goods like croissants or sandwiches. I had a mini imperial cookie and a chocolate peanut butter cookie, both delicious. I also had some loose leaf tea that was provided in a mini tea pot. We were not checked on by staff, which means if you need anything, you have to go downstairs to ask. But, it was also nice as they wouldn't be interrupting the flow of our conversation. Overall, it was a nice change from a chain coffee shop. I do wish they had savory options, as I wouldn't always want to have...
