Komodo Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Winnipeg

This place is take out only but I do hope that changes when the construction next door is complete (there is an apartment building being erected that makes finding this place and parking very difficult... However that is beyond the restaurants control). Otherwise it is well located in Windsor Park in a shopping mall area not far from the United Church. Their food is fresh, hot, and the portion sizes are more than reasonable. I particularly liked the vegetable fried rice. I was a touch disappointed with the chop suey as it didn't have that hot wok smokey flavour but this is a small detail since it was still fresh and good. The young woman working the till was very friendly and accommodating. We also ordered the sweet and sour ribs which were delicious... The sauce is clearly home made and is probably the best sweet and sour sauce I have come across... Nice and sticky, deep red in colour, sour as it hits the tongue but quickly turns to sweet. Delightful! The wonton soup is good but a bit of a bland broth... I prefer the rich chicken or pork broths instead of the consomme broths. Not sure what this one is but it is darker in colour. As I said its okay... Just not exciting. My final dish was a chicken chow mein which also was very good.. The noodles were nice and sauce and the vegetables hot and crisp. It's worth trying this place out... I will definitely order...

Food is great... But don't order Christmas Eve. We have been ordering each Dec 24th for over ten years from Komodo. Typically calling three to four weeks early for a specific pick up time. This year was 6 pm. I think there are new owners as in previous years we had our food bang on that time, but...this year however, it was sheer terror in the kitchen. We were one of about 20 people standing waiting....average wait times were around 45 minutes after the original estimated time. We had a large order and waited an hour and a half! Some other customers walked out but it being the 24th after 6 pm, you're stuck eating fast food. Food is/was good but the new crew needs to take away some lessons in business here. If you have people slated weeks before in for a time with medium to large orders, stop taking phone in orders an hour before.

I’ve been a loyal customer with this restaurant since the first owners. I called me place an order and I asked him if he came with the rice a large rice they said yes I said add an extra race. I get there pick up my order when I get home, it’s the smallest size race. They had given me for free because I had ordered an extra large rice. For that unacceptable bad business practice in our negotiations when I am making an order of respect and honesty and dignity for oneself and others. They have not respected good business back when answering my questions. I will never do business with them and I would suggest you go elsewhere to do business with them as well because they are Chinze and they are selfishowners new owners who on an extra scoop of rice we would cost them three cents.
