I'm giving 2 stars just because our server who is actually not the one assigned to our table is very helpful.
We booked a table for 2pm the day before. 15mins before 2pm they gave us a call saying they got busy so our table will be ready 5mins after 2pm since they are ONLY cleaning our table. (I mean it's only 5mins won't hurt right? so it's ok and told them to call me back when it's ready since we're just at front parking and there are bunch of people at front) 10mins after, I CALLED since no callback yet and I asked if we can get in now. Lady said, we need to wait for 10 more minutes since they are almost done cleaning our table. And I'm like I guess the previous customer ordered a lot of food so they need this much of time to clean a table for 6.
For the 3rd time, I came in 2:30pm and ask for our table. Lady said sorry they are almost done cleaning our table just preparing it for us to seat. I thought it took them 30mins to clean the table coz there's plates and cutlery prepared already but there's none and hey we finally sat down after 45mins.
Then, waited for server for 15mins (im really checking the time I'm not exaggerating) Finally ordered food since we already know what to get. She gave us 6plates and 4cutlery. I meannnn........ idk.
Food came in exactly 3:25 but not all the orders yet which is okay. 4pm other 2 dishes didn't come so I really had to ask. Again thanks to the server (i didnt get her name but she's awesome) said sorry and she'll get it. (I guess our server forgot about us coz We didn't see her not until we're abt to pay for the bill and don't wanna mention her name too).
This is the 2nd time I ate to Max because I don't judge restaus from 1st visit. BUT I guess this is really how it is managed. First time I visit Max, there are only 3 tables being served but same experience.
Maybe don't take bookings if can't manage it well. Just do first come first serve basis.
Food is okay. Not wow but the chicken got better from my last visit. Other than that, waiting for 1hr 25mins from my 2pm booking is not worth the wait for a not so hot food served. I mean I don't mind with other dishes we ordered but atleast the kare kare must be served real hot.
My friend said "They don't have anything for a birthday celebrant unlike other restau eh? I mentioned it's your bday when I reserved a table"
I mean that's ok. I'm not that special. It's just a birthday but maybe that's a good suggestion in case there's another reservation for a birthday that's why I mentioned it too. Small halo halo...
Read moreI rarely make complaints, but this visit to Max was unacceptable, and I hope sharing it helps improve the experience for future guests.
I have 13 years of experience in the restaurant industry, including at one of Winnipeg’s best establishments. I understand how restaurants operate, which is why I normally overlook minor issues. However, this experience was far below the standard I expect.
After my kids’ doctor’s appointment, we arrived expecting a short wait, but it took nearly an hour to be seated—even with clearly empty tables. The environment felt unwelcoming, as if we were forcing ourselves in rather than being invited. Staff moved at their own pace with no sense of urgency. There was no visible host, and vacated tables sat uncleaned and unreset for a long time, leaving guests waiting unnecessarily. Staff came in and out of the kitchen with food but barely communicated with waiting customers.
Once seated, our food took well over an hour to arrive. I requested water three times, but it never came—I had to leave the table and get a water bottle from the car myself. Customers’ time and experience were not treated as a priority; staff clearly dictated their own pace rather than serving efficiently.
I had a baby, a toddler, and a six-year-old with me. My wife was extremely tired, having had a long and exhausting day, and we were simply hoping for a calm, relaxing meal. The delays, unhurried service, ignored requests, slow table turnover, and unwelcoming environment made it impossible to enjoy that experience.
I share this feedback because I know restaurants can do better. Clear communication, a visible host, attentiveness to guests, efficient table turnover, and genuinely welcoming customers would make a...
Read moreMy son and I were excited to try Max’s Restaurant today at lunchtime. We were greeted right away but the hostess started speaking in Tagalog to my son which he doesn’t understand much so he just looked and me and I knew he was embarrassed. It took a few minutes to seat us to our table. Once we sat down, we waited close to 10min without anyone asking what we wanted to drink. I had to call the waiter to place our order. We knew what to order and because my son doesn’t eat pork, I asked the waiter if it’s okay to remove the pork out and he said it shouldn’t be a problem (we ordered pancit canton and half chicken). The order arrived on time, but I noticed there was no meat at all in the pancit and we initially thought it was just supposed to come with shrimp and pork. The waiter took it back and made us a new one but when the food arrived again, there was a hair on the noodles. The waiter took it back and apologized. We got a new order again but there less shrimp this time, we didn’t say anything because at this point we had lost our appetite already. I asked to speak to a manager, he apologized, but also said that there was suppose to be chicken, shrimp and pork and there were no chicken either. He said that he would talk to the general manager later regarding the situation. We got our bill and we did not receive any compensation of some sort. It did not feel like our concern was acknowledged. I love supporting my own culture, but for a new restaurant I wasn’t impressed at all with the service we got and to wait for our food and finding a hair is not acceptable. I hope this feedback will better your staff. If we went to other local restaurants and this happened, I’m sure they would compensate us...
