My favorite time to go was for buck a shuck which happens every Wednesday. They have half price charcuterie on Monday. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. When it's good, it can be very good. The food is very consistent. I'm sad they got rid of the beef bourguignon. Service has been hit and miss. They do have a new manager and the last time I went (within last week) the service was excellent. I need to go back a few more times to see if the new standards stick. I've had absolute terrible service as well which is why I couldn't give it a 5 for now (without some confirmation it wouldn't happen again) The following is an explanation of all the recent dishes I've had and took pictures of. Berkshire Pork was done very well. There is a lot of fat on there however, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip it. If you like pork belly you'll probably really like this. The portion is very generous. Half chicken is tasty. Meat was moist. The cranberry vinegar provides a nice and balanced contrast. The last time i had the calamari I was underwhelmed. It was a bit limp. The flavor was ok, but I've had better elsewhere. Duck Bruschetta... they did the duck very well. I'm not a huge fan of bruschetta but as a change this was nice and done well. Mussels and frites. I have to say the fries are some of my favorites. This is my style. The last time I had it, it wasn't done as well as other times, but even mediocre for its normal standard, its still better than a lot of other places. The mussels were ok. Lots were very small, but you can't control what the stock you get in is sometimes. The bread they serve with your meal is very good. They have at least two kinds. One is a focaccia and the other I'm not sure? They serve it warm. If you're eating in the bar sometimes they don't automatically serve it with your food. So you might need to ask. Clam and bacon pasta... the one time I had it, I was undwhelmed. It probably didn't help that I had been to Italian restaurants that had very good pasta... Maybe they had an off day and it was just that one dish that was not up to its standard par? It was really dry... I personally won't be ordering it again. Profiteroles and Chevre cheesecake. The profiteroles are good, but the cheesecake really shines. I love goat cheese so I might be a bit biased. They do it very well here. One of my favorite desserts. Beef brisket. Exceptionally tender, they cook it till it flakes and breaks apart easily. I asked my friend who hails from Kansas City what he thought. He said it wasn't memorable enough either way. I thought it was solidly good, but maybe not fantastic. Charcuterie is where Peasant has excelled at. Chorizo meatballs was a skip for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavors. Neither was my friend. He did eat it all but wasn't loving it. Raw oysters is a must for buck a shuck (Wednesdays). Though at these small sizes, I would not want to pay $3 per piece. In Winnipeg however, I don't think there's much choice if you want oysters. Having recently gone to Omaha and having oysters at Plank, I see a comparison. The Copa. Picture of the drink is actually a non alcoholic one. I was very pleased to find they had a small list of non alcoholic beverages. There were only 3 mocktails, but its still nice to be remembered (I have an allergy). This pretty much tasted like a pina colada with a bit of a modification.

Very classy place. Our party of 6 (3 couples) very much enjoyed our food and it lived up to its reputation. We've tried to get reservations in past and it was booked up so this time we booked several days in advance for a Friday night. Fringe festival was going on so there was a fun vibe directly outside. We loved the location in the exchange district and the beautiful old building.

The menu was not extensive as menus with real food and real chefs generally are not, but there was something for everyone from gluten free to vegan, to carnivore. Everything here is locally and ethically sourced and made from scratch.

Our waiter was very jolly and double checked with the kitchen regarding various allergies at the table.

The Beef Bourguignon was disappointingly sold out but everything else was available. Note that the menu changes. The reviews were full of pictures of pasta (and pictures of a previous menu with lots of pasta options) but there was no pasta on our menu. That was not disappointing for us but something to note if you are hoping for something specific on the menu you see in the reviews. Refer to the website for the latest menu. Not sure if the menu changes seasonally or daily or what. The menu we enjoyed had loads of meat and fish options.

The pork chop and chicken paillard were delightfully tender with tasty sauces. Our group enjoyed many entrées with no complaints. (all pictured). Also the desserts were perfection and a nice size. The carrot cake surprised as being both gluten free and vegan, the expectations were low but it wowed. The lemon pudding was perfectly tart and sweet. I didn't taste any others but there was satisfaction all around.

We would all recommend this restaurant. The food was impeccable.

The atmosphere was simple but classy, traditional, with just enough historical feel to be cozy and quaint. While I'm sure kids are welcome, I wouldn't recommend bringing kids here as the prices are high. Not sure if there is a kids menu.

Parking is typical of downtown. Be prepared to walk if you want street parking, though there is also a parking garage DIRECTLY across the...

Dined without a reservation around 7pm on a Wednesday night. When we arrived it was a busy night because of $1 oysters and a smaller sized restaurant. We waited for a table at the bar top and got one way before the time quote which was a nice surprise. The drinks were booze forward and sophisticated but very tasty, I tried the mike wazowski which was a floral tasting drink as well as the penicillin which had an unusually interesting Smokey after taste. My partner who doesn’t like to taste his liquor tried the hotel Nacional and he enjoyed it. For appetizers we got the calamari and it was cooked perfectly with what I can only imagine was house made tzatziki as it was the best I’ve had. Our mains came out perfectly timed and looking gorgeous. I got the steak frites medium rare and my partner got the lakeshore pickerel. My steak was cooked perfectly and was way bigger than I had initially imagined, it was also perfectly seasoned. The pickerel was the only reason this review has a 4/5 stars, as there seemed to be only about 3oz of pickerel on the dish and they were quite bland. On the menu it doesn’t state the protein portion size for this dish and my partner was dissatisfied. In the picture you can see my steak portion compared to his pickerel portion and featuring the penicillin cocktail. The price difference between the steak and pickerel was only $2. I wish I could give a shout-out to the bartender who helped us out and our server in the lounge but I didn’t get there names!! If your reading this, great service, service always elevates an evening out. Will be...
