I was so disappointed with their service tonight. My family and I have been going to Sugar Marmalade for a while now. We’ve enjoyed everything we’ve ever ordered and I am fully aware & understand that when I order wings during their happy hour, a specialty drink or a dessert needs to be ordered. What I couldn’t understand was, why my daughter who DIDN’T order wings was also REQUIRED to order a specialty drink. She ordered the mozzarella hotdog, sweet buns and just wanted to drink lemon water. When I questioned them about this, the server and the Manager, I’m assuming, couldn’t give me a logical explanation except that “when you come as a group & someone orders the chicken wings, you all have to buy a drink”; it’s their policy. What??? Listen, if you don’t want your customers to share, that’s all you had to say. Most restaurants do that to make it clear to their customers, which I am in complete agreement with. But to require a customer to pay for something they don’t even want to consume is unfair and does not make sense. It’s not like she didn’t order anything and it’s not like she was getting her order for free. We are paying customers. Whatever…those are your policies, but we don’t have to accept them, which is why we walked out for good. I’m sure there will be other businesses who’ll appreciate our support.
RESPONSE to your response 11.30.21: First of all, I did not contact Sugar Marmalade and secondly, I did not leave you any messages. The only avenue I chose to make my feelings known is through this review.
Please don’t put most of the blame on your servers. The first server I complained to, had to ask another person. That person came to our table but she still couldn’t answer my question with logic. So she went to the back to ask someone else and the response was still the same. Perhaps the MANAGERS/OWNERS should be trained first before anyone else.
Having said that, I do appreciate your acknowledging my complaint and...
Read moreThe food here is terrible and the service is worse! We came here as an early Valentine’s Day celebration, we started with wings which were a terrible let down, how can you mess up wings they were so bland and dry. I ordered the noodles with chicken with tomato sauce which tasted extremely salty and freezer burnt. she ordered rice and chicken which was overly sweet and we got a side of kimchi which was terribly sugary sweet and a “coffee pudding dessert” which ironically wasn’t sweet enough, it really lacked any flavour and it was just a tiny cheap frozen dessert and it tasted terrible. They served our food on broken plates and the only staff member present refused to talk to any customers she just gave us a card to write down our orders and press a button to bring her over, where she went through our order with us to make sure it was written correctly as if that system is faster or more efficient in any way to just doing the last part in the first place?! The food took forever to come out and as you already know it was wildly disappointing. It cost an arm and a leg to eat here and neither of us were even remotely full despite how long we were there and how expensive our meals were. They didn’t even give us any napkins so after finishing my meal I went to find the washroom to clean up and I found that they have tons of freezers where I assume they keep all their cheap, overly sweet food. This place really has the vibe that it would satisfy the palate of a 5 year old sugar addict. Please save yourself some time and money and do not eat at this filthy disgrace of a restaurant! There are many better and cheaper...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place but incredibly disappointed. The menu itself is small but it’s got a good selection of meats, and a few other items. It’s not large tho. It’s priced at $28 dinner.
I can’t stress this enough.. if you are a fan of IGI BBQ (on Pembina) this place is not even a close comparison. Go to IGI instead.
The meat was good, however, it ALL came out first and nothing else. They forgot most of our items each order and when re-ordered, still missed items. There were some items they doubled up and others that never came. They ran out of rice. Yes rice OR since it was an hour prior to close, they didn’t want to make anymore. Real bummer, as 6 of us had to share one small bowl of rice. The noodle soup was good. The shrimp were decent size. The selection of veggies was there but things were sliced so thinly... they shrivelled up almost immediately on the grill. We got all our veggies LONG AFTER the meat came out and were basically eating shriveled veggies at the end with a cold grill. The kicker, they sat us at a table they KNEW had issues. The table shut off about 20 times and each time someone had to come the set it and flip a breaker in the back. I don’t think I need to explain how this affected us cooking our food.... they told us they had to have a technician in to fix it - yet they still sat us here. Not impressed at all. We asked to be compensated since we couldn’t even cook our food. They said if we had cash we didn’t have to pay tax. Seriously?! I won’t return or...
