First, try the place out. The food is great, really good and well worth the visit, your tummy will thank you. Service, price, taste, and value make it a great place to eat. It's a tad small, looks like about 50 people max, but they also do take out.
I like trying out foods, mainly because I like to eat. I've had Persian style food before and usually liked it, but the owner claims this is the only pure completely Persian restaurant in Winnipeg, shipping in ingredients to keep it authentic too. I appreciate intelligence when I see it, and the owners claim about authenticity is verified by the fact that he's basically turned his store room into a little shop next door where you can buy not only the ingredients but some of the finished pastries as well, although I seemed to get that they were cooked off site.
The dishes were vaguely familiar but they were different from any that I've had before, and there wasn't a single thing I tried that I wouldn't happily eat again. The pictures look like they sprinkled cheese over the rice, but actually they top off the rice with a scoop of saffron cooked rice. I had the chicken, but tried my companions' dishes as well. The Falafel was a bit different that I've had elsewhere, less strong spices and more subtlety. The chicken was really good, warm tasty sauce, melt off the bones, and goes good with rice. Then I tried the beefy stew. By far the tastiest of our selections. Again, subtle but strong flavors, thick, great texture. I found everything on the menu wonderful for a cold winter night. I wonder if the menu changes in the summer.
Anyways, definitely on my list to revisit. A bit hard to get to by bus, and the lot is shared by other eateries in the strip mall so parking can be difficult, but I do feel it...
Read moreA HIDDEN GEM in winnipeg. I did not know Winnipeg had authentic Iranian/Persian food until I found this. There are tons of these in my home city of Toronto but I never looked for this in winnipeg. It is among some of my favorite cuisines.
Order: Soltani Kabob, I also asked for tah dig. (Scorched rice).
Customer service: I was greeted very professionally by a young man. He was very friendly and nice. Asked me if I had any questions about the menu. I had come in for take out. 5/5
Location: It is tucked away in Pembina, surrounded by many Asian supermarkets and restaurants. Being of Chinese background, I frequent this area. Ive noticed this shop before but thought it was a Cafe, until one day I decided to look it up and found the menu. Had to try it. 3/5
Value: For 20 some dollars you get steak (barg kabob) and a ground beef kabob (kobbideh), lots of rice, a grilled tomato and if you ask, you get the amazing scorched rice on the bottom of the pan. I love it. It reminds me of a similar thing we have in Chinese pot rice. For smaller appetites, I'm sure you can make two meals or more out of this order. Great portions. 5/5
Taste: Charcoal Grilled meat on buttered saffron rice. You can't go wrong. Add in some raw onion and lemon to balance it out and you have a winner. I probably love this food because it is simple yet so satisfying. It is a meal I could eat everyday but may be in smaller portions. Add a salad and you have a complete meal. 5/5
You have to try this place. Nice people and great service. I...
Read moreI came here from Vancouver visiting Winnipeg after seven months café to order food for takeout, spent overv150$ we encountered an extremely rude very very entitled staff member I for some reason assumed is the son of the owner. When I asked, where is your father and I would like to say hi to him as one of the few Persian owned the businesses in Winnipeg responded what do you want from my dad as seeing his atrocious looking father as one of those remarkble moments of my life, I had no idea that he is just an hourly working employee here and nothing further, obviously on a normal basis I would never asked to see anybody’s father since I thought he is the son of the established of this business who we have good rapport with, anyhow I hope the owners take this review into consideration and train the staff to be acting properly and respect towards the clients as having a business in the city is already difficult as is so hiring staff as rude as this person is definitely a detriment to...
