Atmosphere: Empty at 7 pm on a Friday. The parking lot is very uneven and needs to be repaved. The restaurant is dusty and dirty. The live plants are neglected and have fake flowers stuck into the pots. Everything is super old and falling apart. It's fun to visit classic diners, but there are some things they can update while retaining the classic asthetic, such as reupholstering the booths & getting new drapes. At the very least, maintaining and cleaning these things. There is a huge crack across the floor down the centre of the restaurant which is not surprising after tackling the surrounding parking lot. The faucets in the bathroom have years of calcium build up on them. Dead bugs on the window sills. There are a bunch of vending machines at the entry and they made annoying noises while we ate. If I must have annoying sounds, I think arcade games are more appropriate for a place like this rather than a gumball machine to win generic ear buds. As we began our meal, the restaurant was visited by a person tweaked out on something. The server stood 8 feet away, behind the counter, leaning back against another counter, facing us and watching us for the entire meal. Service: The woman (possibly an owner) was clearly exhausted but she took our order & it was correct in spite of a bit of a language barrier. She was unsettled when the tweaker came in but did not ask them to leave, nor did she see if they intended to order. Food: Kids had burgers & fries. The portion of fries was miniscule. They said that their burger patties "don't taste very good". I had the chicken & spaghetti with chili as sauce. The chicken was just ok. The chili was disgusting. It tasted like a bunch of chili powder was added to refried beans and then mixed with the same bland gravy my kids had with their fries. I did not eat the spaghetti. The buttered rye toast was good and so was the coleslaw. For $90, we left truly disappointed. This place was awesome in the past. Not anymore...
Read moreI ordered the chilli burger and fries yesterday and only took half a bite. The bun was hard (even with the chilli all slopped over it)and stale...the meat was cold lol believe it or not so I returned it. First let me also add that my friend and her child received their order 15-20 mins before my daughter and I did!! The server then told me after I said I didn’t want anything else that I still had to pay for it. Lol. I kindly told the server I would not be paying for it. When I went to go pay for the pop and meal my child ate...I again said I would not be paying for the meal I returned. The cook then preceded to yell at me from the kitchen that I must pay...must pay because he cooked it. Then I started to get angry at this point and told him I’m not paying for food I did not eat nor did I like!!! He kept yelling at me. (With other patrons in the restaurant). I finally told him that I either pay for that meal and drinks or I would be walking out and paying for nothing. Finally I walked out...the cook/owner followed me out of the restaurant and was yelling and waving his hand in my face in front of our kids. I kept telling him I wasn’t paying for garbage food especially food I did not eat!!!
Worse experience of my life. I honestly feel bad for not paying for what was eaten but that was ridiculous!!!!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE!! Horrible customer service and the food was disgusting.
Nope nope and...
Read moreWe hadn't been there in quite some time and it looks like there are new owners. If I remember correctly the old menu is mostly in tact and there are some new (chinese food) offerings. We both had lunch specials. The soup was pretty tasty (vegetable barley, I'm guessing) as were the mashed poatotoes with gravy. The coleslaw was also good, but a little heavy on the garlic. The patty melt was good, but the ribs, while tasty, were over done or sitting too long. All things considered, both were overpriced.
Also, the pricing for the specials was confusing. It said they were 10% off between 12-2pm. We were there at 1pm, so the discount should apply. We asked and were told that they were 10% off. Adding to the confusion: the prices were higher than those listed on the regular menu. We figured that was due to the addition of the soup. Anyway, when we paid, we were charged the prices listed. No discount. By this time we weren't in the mood to haggle, so we didn't ask why.
I'll just say, the pricing should...
