To begin I would not even give this a star but I need to post a review.
Went for lunch today as I have seen signs advertising samosa around area so googled direction and it takes me to the Caviler Hotel. Now I’ve had some great meals in hotels diners and was ok with this. However, from the moment I walked in to when I left service was horrendous. To begin the smell of stale cigarettes was off putting and should’ve left at that point but stayed to give it a chance. Cheap plastic flowers with price tags still on them in 70’s vibe vases with plastic tables clothes were tacky and not necessary. The waitress was anything but friendly and seemed annoyed that there was more than 2 ppl in restaurant. There may have been rush as several tables were still covered in past orders and not cleared. After getting a menu ( a lot of choices but half is actual diner food and pizzas) I decided to try the combo platter with chicken as well as the samosa platter. When taking my order the waitress was annoyed again that I was ordered off it as she complained that she had no idea what any of this food was and had no idea what the Curry’s of the day were. She also had no idea what soft drinks were available. Once my order was taken I noticed her clearing tables with tea pots and she proceeded to dump out tea pot in sink , rinse and place it back with the others. The reason I know this is because there is an awkward bussing station in the open in the restaurant. This had me now question all other sanitation practices not only in dining room but certainly the kitchen. The rest of my time passed with watching her ignore another new customer for 20 minuets before taking order in empty room and listening to her talk to customers about how she is miserable with loosing all her holidays of 4 weeks to nothing after 30 plus years. How when asked why no ones is answering the phone she responds with she can’t understand anything they are saying to her. Once my food came I was surprised , well at everything, as I had no idea what I was getting. Surprised in a bad way, the plate contained 4 perfectly square pieces of chicken, 1/2 cup basmati rice , a glob of cauliflower concoction curry, a glob of chickpea curry, some salad and 2 pc of Tim bit covered in syrup. A plate with 2 samosas covered in chickpea gravy and onions. I was to also get naan bread but that was forgotten and took 25 mins and 2 try’s asking said waitress for it. Only never to be seen but during that time a few hotel staff got there meals. The quality and temp of food was nothing short of a microwave meal. And actually about the same size. I really tried to like this place but from the moment I walked in and was impressed upon that this was fried food diner with a few regulars that want bfast 24/7 to a meal missing components and had 2 human hairs in samosas and it being cold after 10 mins of receiving, I just can’t go back and don’t recommend it to anyone. Sanitation, Service and quality ect... they need to close down and either find another place to open to rebrand or get a major renovation with menu overhaul. So disappointed that we can’t have a good Indian restaurant...
Read moreI ordered the somos platter here a few weeks ago & I wasn't impressed. My friend ordered the same thing a few weeks prior & it was completely idifferent & much better than I was served. Other than that I can't tell you how the food is but I can say the dine in service or lack there of is probably the worst I've ever received at a restaurant. I arrived about 15mins later than 3 ither friends to join them for breakfast Saturday morning. They had already ordered a coffee for me so I sat down to drink it & chat. We sat there for about 15 mins & had to go & refill our coffees because the wait staff never came by in that time. When they did come out to deliver food to another table they still didn't offer any coffee refills. When they delivered food to out table I was completely ignored & not offered a menu or asked if I was planning on eating. All 3 others at my table were eating so you might think I would want something as well but I guess not. The others at my table ate, they said the breakfast was alright. I however sat there for an entire hour without being served & having to serve our own coffee the entire time. About 5 mins before we left somebody came over with a pot of coffee finally but I told them I didn't want a refill several times because I had already filled my own cup up 4 times by now but they proceeded to fill it up after me sayung no thanks at least a 1/2 dozen times. So thanks for...
Read moreFrom the Winnipeg location I politely asked for clean glasses. I got an argument instead of new glasses. The ones at the table looked like someone with very greasy hands had wrapped their whole hand around the glasses. I wasn't trying to accuse the restaurant of being unsanitary, I just thought maybe someone else had sat at the table, handled the glasses and perhaps left or switched tables. A glass from a different table was given to me with a huffy "Is that good enough?". I also did not appreciate that water was spilled on the table by the server and not cleaned up and menus were placed down so they were jabbing me in my 41 week pregnant belly. The server did not pay any attention when she brought the water and menus. She seemed rushed and grumpy. I wanted to have a relaxing dinner out, in hope of getting labour started. That didn't happen, maybe I was being over sensitive about the glasses, but why argue? Why tell me that maybe whomever put the glasses out left finger prints on them? I do understand that happens. These glasses looked very handled. Ultimately I didn't feel comfortable eating here. We left and may try to come...
