I stopped in for the first time to "My Roti Place" East Indian restaurant on Dundas, Woodstock and I couldn't be more satisfied! The restaurant, which has many large tables for a crowd of friends, was clean and fresh and inviting. The space was modern and colourful and I was greeted by one of the owners with a large smile and happy-to-help personality. I am not a "true" newbie to EI food, however, I love the flavours of the East along with the spices and my order didn't disappoint. I ordered the Marsala Dosa which was served with a side of Lentil soup and two side dipping sauces. The Dosa was beautifully spiced (med to stupid), very flavourful and generously portioned for one person (leftovers ya!!). The filling (the potato marsala) was an orchestra of flavours in my mouth and left behind an enjoyable burn. The crepe was lovely, crisp and paired well with the dipping sauces which were cooling to the palate. LOVED the tomato one!! The side Lentil soup (which has an amazing caramelized onion baseline) was also very enjoyable, great flavours and I even topped it up with the potato marsala because the Dosa was that good! I also ordered Chana Marsala and the taste was excellent (yes add a little stock for the egg). But the one thing I ordered (last minute) was the Chai tea and I fell in love! The tea is warm and spicy, comforting and exotic to drink, as Chai should be. No place in Woodstock can compete with this tea!!
I gave a 4 out of 5 stars because, again, East Indian restaurants should play EI music for an all-around atmosphere of the East. I will recommend this place to my family and friends and I will be coming back for more because I love food that wakes up my mouth and "My Roti Place" did.
Service was excellent, explanatory, accommodating to diets, vegetarian options, and took the time to talk with me which is beautiful because the culture is also warm and spicy! आपसे मिलने के...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious, with plenty of room to sit and relax. When I arrived, only a couple of diners were inside, which made the space feel calm and open. I was greeted and served by a very friendly gentleman who made the visit feel welcoming right from the start.
I decided to order the Butter Paneer Poutine, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. While waiting, I noticed the interior was decorated with photos showcasing the history of the store, which added a personal, local touch. Indian music played softly in the background, creating an authentic and comfortable atmosphere. One small but memorable detail: I was offered fennel seeds at the end of my meal. They’re sweet, candy-like seeds often used as a palate cleanser in Indian dining, and they added a thoughtful finishing touch.
When the poutine arrived, it was piping hot and beautifully presented. The fries were golden and crispy, holding up well under the rich butter sauce. The paneer—cut into small cubes—looked similar to tofu but had its own distinct character: soft, slightly chewy, and able to soak up the buttery, tomato-based sauce. Each bite brought together the creaminess of the gravy, the crunch of the fries, and the mild tang of the paneer, creating a flavorful dish with just a bit of spice for balance. It was hearty, comforting, and full of flavor from start to finish.
Overall, the experience was excellent. Between the warm service, inviting atmosphere, and standout dish, this is a spot I’d recommend...
Read moreI ordered on Uber eats where they give tiny portion at ludicrous price. Specifically requested in note, I need utensils and that please give a good l portion. Many give 6 tiny pieces of chicken and that's it. Well funny enough without any shame or basic reading skills, no utensils and literally 6 tiny thumb like pieces of chicken on watery and super liquid butter chicken. Honestly was worst had in while, if any goodnplace opens up nearby this would automatically get crushed. Lamb biriani the egg literally was Grey inside. Plain rice taste lamb was good. Incredibly expensive for a way lower than expected value for what you get.
The thing that passed me off the most was the utensils receiving the food outside no *utensils. . Honestly the cheapest thing is the plastic utensils.... what is...
