I’ve heard a lot about this place in town, but had never had the chance to check it out myself. I first heard about it from an old coworker who raved about how delicious the food was, and I’d walked past it many times before the downtown construction started. This time, since I hadn’t eaten lunch and was already downtown doing some work, I thought, “Why not finally go in and give it a try?”
Stepping inside, you’re immediately greeted by the most inviting smell of fresh soups and hot food being prepared.
Their menu offers plenty of choices, soups, sandwiches, and more, but what caught my eye before walking in was the sign outside advertising Italian sandwiches: $5 for a half, $10 for a full. I decided to go with the half, although in hindsight, I really should have gone for the full because it pretty good.
The sandwich was prepared quickly, and I took it outside to enjoy on the chairs provided. It was a beautiful day, with a light breeze, which made the whole experience even better.
As for the sandwich itself, it was excellent. You could tell it was made with local ingredients which it was, and it had that nostalgic quality that reminded me of the kind of sandwiches you’d pack for a picnic or get in a school lunch, but done with care and flavor. The bread was spot on: firm enough to hold everything together but not too hard, with just the right chew. The inside really shone because of the sauce, it tied everything together perfectly. It blended with the fresh lettuce and tomato and complemented the meat beautifully, creating a balanced bite each time. The flavours were simple, but in the best way, classic, familiar, and satisfying.
I would absolutely come back here, especially to try their soups, since I’ve heard those are what they’re really known for. I definitely feel like I missed out by not getting one this time. But if this sandwich is any indication, everything here is made with care and a focus on flavor....
Read moreI’ve been debating posting this review because this is genuinely my favourite restaurant in town, however an experience I had a few days ago has left a sour taste in my mouth and I likely won’t be back because of it. I arrived ten minutes to close which I acknowledge is cutting it close but the way things were handled were not okay. One girl started singing “we close at 2 o’clooooock” and the other girl making my food started speaking about how she would never come in to a restaurant knowing they close in 10 minutes as I’m standing two feet away from them. The vibes were visibly annoyed and I left the store just as they closed feeling like I never should’ve gone in the first place. Maybe lock your doors early if you don’t want customers coming in during your...
Read moreThe owners are incredible people, the atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly. The food is top notch. They alternate different fresh cooked soups daily and I’ve tried about everyone and they’re all fantastic even the ones I wasn’t sure I’d like were fabulous. The chicken Caesar wrap is easily the best I’ve ever had, farm fresh chicken, homemade croutons, house made dressing… it’s huge and delicious we try to grab one at least once a week in store or on Uber eats. They also have a small variety of other sandwiches!
Did I mention they even try to support local for there ingredients as much as possible so you know you’re getting fresh every darn time.
I highly recommend giving...
