Called on Thurs. Dec. 4th to get info on room/reservation, the front desk woman wasn't very helpful (didn't know the age for a Senior's discount, nor could talk about prices) - told us that the manager, Michelle, would be in on Friday and we should speak with her.
Michelle, was very helpful & upgraded our room for free when we called (when we'd checked online a few weeks in advance, the price was lower). Price was reasonable for a basic hotel, which is what we wanted. No pool nor hot tub, which we were fine not paying for as we wouldn't use them.
We were on the ground floor, steps away from the front desk & the breakfast area but it was noisy with people checking in, luckily it was quiet from around 11 pm. A noisy pick up truck gunned its way down the alley outside our window 4 times throughout the night. Not the hotel's fault, just strange that the same truck would do that 4 times in a night.
The underpads on the mattresses were "noisy" as if there was a plastic sheet under the sheet, so every movement caused noises. The beds & pillows were very comfortable, though!
Room & bathroom were clean, some little signs of aging in the shower area, but overall good quality. Shower head leaked & sprayed all over. When I informed Michelle the next morning, she said she'd get maintenance to take care of it. We stayed one night only (were in town for a weekend tournament).
Mini fridge & microwave included in room, were a bonus. Microwave in breakfast area was available as well.
Continental breakfast was basic: 2% milk, orange & apple juice, fresh apples (2 or 3 different types) & bananas, white & whole (?) wheat sliced bread, 4 types of bagels, peanut butter, strawberry jam, butter, Cheerios & Cornflakes, packets of instant hot cereals, coffee & tea, ice & water.
Parking lot is not attached to hotel, but it wasn't far away.
Didn't eat at any restaurants, didn't do any shopping nor sightseeing. Didn't use the free Wi-Fi, so can't comment on it.
We were willing to stay in another hotel in London that had a great review, a room & amenities comparable with this Econo Lodge but at a much, much lower price. It was 16 mins. away from the venue we were going to play at, whereas this Econo Lodge was less than a minute away. Michelle offering us a free upgraded room closed the deal for us.
Thanks, Michelle! It was also fun chatting about sports with you. Hope to see you next year if we return for the...
Read moreUpdate. No sir there Isn’t any doubt, About your hidden fees. I have a receipt emailed to me from you. Which matches the price I was quoted on the phone. No thanks to you my credit card Company credited me the difference. You tried to scam me out of.
DO NOT STAY HERE! I prepaid for one night $108.58. Only to find the charged my credit card $116.94. When I called. The lady was no help. She said they do not charge hidden fees. Which I can prove they did. I will be putting a stop payment until the issue is rectified.
UPDATE! To the owner. Yes I have a receipt and I can send you a copy of it. And nowhere on the receipt. does it show those fees, you Charged me. No thanks to you. My credit card company has resolved the issue. Crediting the difference you overcharge me. Your Customer service representative gave me a total. Which matches the total I have on my emailed receipt, For $108. Now I did notice. In the fine print. Which was not disclosed. When I reserved the room. There is a two dollar Fee for reserving a room with you. With the taxes on that two dollars. The total was still under $111. But you still charged me $116. I told my credit card company I would pay the 108+ the two dollars and the applicable tax. But they’re only charging me $108. No thanks to you. This is very unfortunate because you have the only decent hotel in Woodstock staying at. My girlfriend and I appreciate. But in the future why would I stay with you? You have Broken my trust for $8 dollars. This wasted time of me leaving this review. You reviewing the review. And now the discrepancy on your file with MasterCard. Doesn’t look good. So tell me, is it worth the eight dollars. How many customers have you scammed out of eight dollars. To one person it’s not a lot. But when you add it up. A thousand Of people a year. = $8000 a year in additional Income. You are taking from people as a technicality. When I call and ask for a total . I want a total cost. Even in your Estimate there was nothing mentioned or stated. Unless there was damages or theft of property had occurred. But the two dollar fee because I had a reservation. You charged me an extra two dollars because I reserved a room? You made it quite clear on the phone you were taking my money. if I showed up or not. This is just a testament to your character as a business owner. On an already...
Read moreThis hotel is in a good location but do not book here without seeing the room you will be staying in. The photos posted by the hotel were deceptive. They showed a substantially better room that we received. (This hotel also serves as the local Greyhound station. Some of the reviews and ratings are for what it's like to wait here for a bus.)
The pictures on the website showed a room with a desk, floor lamp and windows. The room we received was in the basement, without a desk, and a tiny dungeon-like window. About a third of the room was very dark without any way of making it brighter. It felt just like it was -- a somewhat damp basement room.
The plastic mattress cover squeaked when we moved and felt unpleasant through the sheet. On one wall was what appeared to be an empty smoke detector bracket, but perhaps it was the base of a light fixture that was once there.
Just so you know, the "free parking" in the description does not mean this hotel has a parking lot. One parks on the street and is subject to the city's parking regulations.
Because there wasn't a desk in the room, I had to work in the lobby which has limited electric plugs, so I had the delightful experience of trying to work at a table shared by a non-guest who appeared to be either on drugs or suffering mental problems. It's nice that the hotel lobby is open to people with problems, but perhaps not so nice for the guests.
It's possible that most of the nicer rooms here are occupied long-term. They might be okay, but there's no way to tell when booking online whether you will get the room advertised or whether you will be sent to...
