If I could I would give a zero star review, I am actually confused at the reviews being as good as they are. The entire experience was embarrassingly bad. I would eat at Tim Hortons 100 times before eating here again! I mean maybe if you paid me, I would eat here again. To start with, I tried to order the soup of the day, the waitress laughed an said they just didn't change the sign and it wasn't the soup of the day, and did nothing to correct the problem for future orders. Next, dirty water was dripping from the ceiling onto my mom and the table. YUCK! They grudgingly moved us to a new table and then proceeded to seat more customers at that table! Grosse! We then waited another 10 mins to have our order taken and then another at least half hour for our food to arrive! I ended up still ordering soup which looked like dirty dishwater and tasted as bad. The soup doesn't come with a roll, bun, or toast (common, even Tim Hortons offers that!). So I ordered some. It was the most embarrassingly pathetic piece of crunchy dry toast and they charge $4.00 for it!! Again, embarrassing! We sent the soup back, asked to speak to a manager and were told we wouldn't be charged for the pathetic piece of toast. I asked for a piece of fish to be added to my daughter's order to replace the soup. The fish came without any sauce, or even a few complimentary fries for the trouble! I have attached a picture, the toast in the picture looks better than it did in person! Moving on, my daughter ordered the same meal as my mom, fish and chips, and her plate came with half the amount of fries my mom's did! At this point, I feel embarrassed for the kitchen staff. The manager never bothered to come speak with us, and we were still charged for the pathetic piece of toast and for the replacement piece of fish. Blows my mind how incredibly awful this entire experience was. Can't believe they have anything over a 2...
Read moreHave eaten here on a few occasions. Today my daughter and I were there over the lunch hour. The restaurant was quite full for a Monday and there were only 2 servers on. Having said that, we experienced excellent service. Our server was friendly and took the time to ensure we had everything we needed. My daughter had the havarti burger with soup of the day, and I had the schnitzel on a bun with soup. The food was very tasty and portions were a decent size. I would recommend this place for lunch if you ever find yourself in St. Jacobs. Don't forget to take your receipt with you if you plan to buy anything in the deli shop next door. If you present your receipt from The Grill, you will get 10% off your purchase at the deli shop.
Update: My daughter and I came back for lunch today. The menu has been changed and a few awesome items are no longer available (example: scalloped potatoes). I can get over that...menu changes happen. However, I wished to have the schnitzel on a bun again. It no longer comes with sauerkraut. Rather, it comes with lettuce and tomato. I asked if I may have it with sauerkraut and the server responded that I could, but there would be an upcharge. I indicated that I would not be having lettuce and tomato - just sauerkraut - so would there still be an upcharge? Her response? "I don't make the rules" and that was it. I ordered the cabbage roll soup and that was it. I would have spent more on the schnitzel on a bun but, honestly, charging for sauerkraut in place of the lettuce/tomato seems like nickel and diming to me. I will get my schnitzel on a bun fix, going forward, at a restaurant near the Farmers Market that makes a fab schnitzel on a bun...with sauerkraut. I have adjusted the rating down one star to 4 due to today's experience. I will say the food remains tasty and...
Read moreWe visited this location on May 11 for the Mother’s Day Brunch, our daughter made reservations for 6 a week prior to our visit. We were greeted and quickly seated, and that was the last of the good service. After 15 minutes our drink order was taken and we waited 10 more minutes for the drinks, (coffee and juice) to arrive and our food order to be taken. We all ordered from their special brunch menu. After we waited an hour, we located our server and asked for an update and a refill of our coffee and drinks. We were told the food would be up very shortly and they were “struggling” in the kitchen because two kitchen staff members called in and advised that they weren’t coming in. “Shortly” turned out to be another 30 minutes. When the food arrived the pancakes were mildly warm to cold, the omelettes loose and not completely cooked. Needless to say that after two hours we didn’t order dessert. Without asking the server took 25% off of our total bill. The restaurant was not full and throughout our visit they continued to seat walk in customers with no reservations. This continued to overload the staff, and although they knew they were short handed, they did not advise anyone that there would be a longer than normal wait/delay. In summary we were there for two hours for subpar food and terrible service. Judging by conversations and comments of other guests seated near us, everyone was having the same experience with at least one table getting up and leaving. This will be our first and last visit to Jacobs Grill and I would not recommend...
