La Cantina 340 — Restaurant in Puerto Varas

Enjoyed dinner here with my daughter. Cool place with a artistic design which makes the atmosphere fun. They also had nice music which seemed local or at least Latin American. The food was good. We had the salad with walnut, blue cheese, raisin, almonds, etc. Also had the fries topped with meat and cheese. And the pizza margherita. It was all good. The problem I had and the reason for the one star rating is that when the bill came I went to add the tip but noticed there was already a 10% gratuity added. I've never been to a restaurant where the tip was automatically added unless it was a large group. Maybe it's normal in Chile but we've been here a week and haven't seen it. Too bad because as a former waiter I always tip minimum 20% so they got short-changed by adding in a tip. I also noticed some other 300 and 500 peso additions on the bill which I'm not sure what they were for but didn't care to investigate. Maybe management can explain...

You get to spend the first part of your visit frustrated trying to see the menu. Paper menus are not available. No cell service? Too bad for you because there is no Wi-Fi. If you do have a connection, still not enough, you MUST HAVE an Instagram account. Trying to sign up for Instagram to see the menu? Ha! Joke is on you, that may not be available for whatever reason Meta has today. Last option, the friendly waitress will try to describe the whole menu to you. Hablo español, no fue el problema. Making it difficult to order starts the whole experience of with a bad taste that is hard to overcome. One single printed menu was too much effort. It makes you worry about the effort it would take to keep the kitchen clean. The wait staff was great, this bad experience was 100% management...

This place is super fun! Loved it here. The food was amazing- I had one of their traditional sandwiches and it was very big portions & very delicious!! They have karaokes on Tuesdays and it was so fun. Loved the atmosphere & vine. Plus servers were so nice! Definitely recommend...
