Cafe Primmo — Restaurant in Santiago

Foreigners beware. Sadly we got scammed here, because the place is nice.

We got our coffees and ginger bread men. The man behind the bar was chatty from the beginning and frequently interrupted us to try and sell us fresh bread/croissant sandwiches (we had eaten prior to arriving and didnt want more) and ask us where we were from, how was our coffee etc.

At one point his made some house ice teas and came over to us, interrupted us and said "for you". We were obviously surprised as we hadn't asked for them (there were only two other girls in the cafe), and assumed the were on the house. Of course, we should have clarified but it was so obviously not what we ordered, it seemed more strange to ask.

When we took the bill, the iced tea was added (and almost doubled the bill). When I pointed this out our hosts English disappeared suspiciously quickly. He asked if we wanted to add a tip and I clearly said "no propina" and explained this was because we didn't order the iced teas (but we drank them so we will pay for them). He then cancelled the transaction and reset it with 10% propina again.. as if I wouldn't check.. "no propina" is pretty unambiguous.

This sounds like it might have been a miscommunication. It was absolutely not, it was barefaced dishonesty for a few dollars. I have travelled the world and this was a straight forward scam (ambiguously give customers something and then charge them for it).

Sadly, it leaves the bad taste in the mouth. Otherwise the place was...

Estaba haciendo un trámite por el sector esta mañana y me pareció muy acogedor el lugar. Aunque tenía poco tiempo, preferí pedir un capuchino para llevar dentro del local. En la vitrina tenían pastelería y me entusiasmó una media luna con chocolate. La chica me dijo que estaban fríos y si quería que calentara la media luna. Fue mi primer error, ya que al ser para llevar y tener chocolate, este se pegó en la bolsa de papel y no pude comerlo. Además, ya no se veía apetitoso. El café tenía un mal sabor, como si no hubieran lavado la cafetera o los filtros. Se sentía pasado, sin dudas. Cuando vuelva a estar cerca, pensaré dos veces antes de volver a comprar ahí. Fuera de eso, la señorita que me atendió...

Este es mi local preferido para un rico y buen café. Decorado con cosas antiguas y cosas escritas con tiza les da un ambiente particular. Sus precios están dentro del promedio para el sector si no un poco más bajo. Trabajan con la marca de café Illy, muy bien preparado. Además del café recuerdo que tienen un brownie exquisito, vale cada moneda pagada, también tienen sandwiches muy ricos.
