Italissimo — Restaurant in Santiago

The food was great and the atmosphere is perfect for lunch or dinner and has an ambiente. The owner is really nice and seems to care for his restaurant. I'd love to visit again (with another waiter, see below).

However...

The service was sadly not as expected. As I had some stomach issues, I couldn't eat anything fried, therefore I asked the waiter if the chicken in the cesar salad was grilled. He conveniently "misunderstood" that I wanted an extra portion of chicken. I obviously had to take it away.

Then, I couldn't drink anything but 1 juice that they didn't have. I didn't really want to get anything to drink but the waiter almost forced me to get a water.

Finally, as clearly I wasn't happy, I didn't want to leave him a tip. However, he didn't leave me a choice. He typed in his tip gladly in the card machine without asking me.

I find this absolutely outrageous and sad that such a nice restaurant had such a poor and insensitive...

A restaurant with great food, honest prices and good ambience, hampered by really bad service. I second all other reviews complaining about service. In my case, I was brought twice a bill with an incorrect (of course higher) amount than what was due. Good thing I checked, twice, and I finally got te correct one, but all without so much as an apology. This is a pity because the food quality varies from good (pizza and pasta) to excellent. The rice arancini (fried balls of rice) were outstanding: amongst the best I've ever had, and that includes restaurants in Italy. Even the pairing of mushroom risotto, inside the arancini, and pesto sauce, on the plate, that would horrify most Italians, actually works! This place is real authentic Italian food. Located in downtown Santiago, Chile it's a huge restaurant with lots of different spaces so don't be surprised if when you first walk in it seems empty. We had dinner there on a Wednesday night around 6:30 and it was pretty busy by the time we left. The food is fantastic. Tried the lasagna, the Italian salad and the pizza with salami and Ham. It was nice to walk in and be greeted in Italian. That to me says a lot. Highly recommended and very reasonable prices. Better than a lot of Chilean restaurants in the area where cost...
