If you're walking from Wangfujing Street to find this restaurant, you'll think you made a wrong turn as you wander down Xila Hutong, an alley that seems like it's all residential with not much going on. But keep going, and you'll find this restaurant labelled "VEGETARIAN" where you least expect to find a restaurant.
Reliably vegetarian restaurants are not the easiest thing to find in China, and with that in mind, I give this four stars. By western vegetarian restaurant standards, I'd give it three stars. The menu is extensive and pictorial, which is good because the staff does not speak English. Dishes are heavy on fake meat (as are most Chinese vegetarian places). Food prices are moderate for China. Tea prices are oddly very expensive. Service was well-meaning, but off due (I think) to the language barrier. Soups came out after entrees; spring roll appetizers came out last. Ambiance is ordinary.
The food was solid if not exceptional. (I'm shocked this is ranked the #20 restaurant in all of Beijing as of the time of this review.) The pumpkin soup was delicious, though a tad sweet. The other dishes were solid, but I must say I was underwhelmed after reading all of the five-star, "best in Beijing" reviews here.
