Shanghai Lane — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

To be honest, I was in Happy Valley because I wanted to check out this new rotisserie place which is quite similar to La Rotiszzxx. Anyway, since I was there, I stopped by Shanghai Lane which was well hidden but in a good way, there were less people dining there.

Had two set lunches and extra tofu.

The tofu was a bit too sweet for my liking but it was palatable.

For the other lunch set, I actually wanted those dumplings because the dumplings are always good but the guy served the pork chops which were still ok I suppose, it had a lovely crispy coating while the meat was superficially tender.

The star of the show was the tofu, I loved those salty pickled vegetables and salted egg pieces which were delicious...

The stewed pork is way too salty and color is too dark. Default soup is sour-spicy which is weird enough when you aren’t a spicy lover so you can only pay extra $8 to have their another soup which tastes fair enough. Dandan noodles is an add-on option but it doesn’t taste like it’s worth it. Last but not least, 10% service charge for real? Not recommending at all. P.S. music played loud and the bald waiter was very into the songs…what a mood killer...

Was looking for a little place to have a quick dinner after late night at work, and was glad to find this spot. Two dishes came to around $120 and the noodles were nice and fresh. Greens were a little on the oily side but well seasoned and the wonton noodles were just what I was looking for. The dumplings are great with a touch of vinegar!
