We came here for dinner on a Friday night without a reservation and waited about 20 minutes. It's best to make a reservation in advance and will probably do so next time. We had to share a table with other people.
We ordered two claypot rice - beef with egg 窩蛋牛肉 and the chicken with mushroom (add on) 冬菇雞, the stir fried beef with potatoes, and the fried Bombay duck (it's really a fish!). The claypot rices came out within 20 minutes, which would be considered quite "fast", compared to other places that take over 1 hour. They were delicious and the rice was perfectly cooked and some parts were crispy but not entirely burnt. The chicken was a bit bony, but is expected.
The star of our dinner was the stir fried beef with potatoes. Beef was tender and the potatoes so crispy and soft at the same time. Super delicious!
The fried Bombay duck fish was nice as well, until the very end where I found a slug crawling in my bowl! It must have come from the raw lettuce, which may not have been washed properly! Shocking! I might not order this dish next time and stick to cooked veggies. We showed them the slug but they didn't apologize or say anything, just took the plates away.
Total amounted to around HK$400 for 3 people, so...
Read moreWe booked a table for 8pm and were admittedly a little late, but there was a queue of about 5 tables outside and we were offered a folding table laid out 2 doors' down from the restaurant in a poorly lit part of the alley. No, thank you. When we mentioned our booking they apologised because someone else had taken our table (citing miscommunication between staff or something) but managed to give us the next table indoors. Moral of the story: it's worth booking ahead and being insistent on getting seated where you want.
The clay pot rice was exemplary with a delicious crispy rice base and a good soya sauce. Everything else was fine but nothing special. Sautéed clams in black bean sauce were well seasoned but the clams themselves weren't especially fresh or clean, black pepper pork stomach soup was very good but they forgot our half chicken, salt & pepper fried squid was a wet batter vs dry which I prefer... Might give it another shot but I won't be...
Read moreA local community restaurant located in a small side alley which was a bit hard to find for first time visitors. We came for the hot pot rice but frankly it was disappointing or probably the worst dish amongst we had ordered. Flavours of eels were not well blended into the rice while the rice was lack of some burnt taste that gourmet customers were crazed for. Rice was rather blank in tastes. Chili fried squids, fried bean curb skin stuffed with shrimp paste & vegetable hot pot were quite good. Interior was fairly basic & minimal. Lunch time on weekdays was not crowded. Overall the price bill was quite affordable which may explain why this restaurant is...
