On Easter Monday, we headed to Ask for Alonzo's for breakfast. The first thing we noticed was how well-designed the restaurant was. Despite its small size, the area feels incredibly spacious and comfortable. The clean and modern atmosphere, as well as the way they extend the seating towards the front, make this a great place to visit.
The Roman Meatballs, Breakfast Carbonara, and Lasagna were among the dishes we ordered. All three dishes were delicious, and the amounts were large. The breakfast carbonara was quite tasty. The carbonara sauce was outstanding.
We went to take advantage of their drink special (add 198 HKD for 2 hours of free flow). The cocktail menu is extremely extensive, with red and white wine, prosecco, and beer mixers to pick from. We were advised to try their vodka with homemade lemonade juice by the staff. We like the drink since it was so refreshing!
After our meal, the staff was courteous and even provided us a free tiramisu! which we found quite enjoyable.
Following the meal, we sampled two of their artisan brews (Hefeweizen and Jian Xi Orang IPA). They were tasty and provided a pleasant opportunity to unwind and converse after the meal.
The restaurant is one that I would suggest. The atmosphere, cuisine, and service are...
Read moreMy boyfriend took me here for Valentine’s dinner. It was perfect. The price was reasonable (around 700 total for two people), which is so nice considering the day.
We ordered from the Valentine’s menu, which consisted of Prosecco, bread with truffle butter sauce, an appetiser, rigatoni ragu, two choices of main, and dessert.
The Prosecco was a really good touch, it was sweet and went well with the meal. I’m obsessed with the truffle butter! The waitstaff (who were absolutely lovely) let us have another round of it. The bread itself tasted unique. I think it had a tomato flavour to it.
The pasta was perfectly al dente. It’s hands down the best Ragu I’ve had, and I’ve had it in Tuscany!
The steak was really good too- soft and well-flavoured. The mashed potatoes were also really creamy. The asparagus was perfectly charred.
We also had Bass a la puttanesca. I preferred the steak, but the bass was also pretty good. I really loved the puttanesca sauce. It was tangy and rich.
Again, the waitstaff were absolutely lovely, the shop has a cosy ambiance. We had an amazing time and we’ll definitely come again.
One minor thing is that the chairs could be more comfortable - at the moment they’re...
This restaurant pleasantly surprises with its ambiance and an effort to get close to Spanish cuisine, although it’s hard to call it fully authentic. The evening began with a refined gesture from the establishment: crispy grilled bread paired with a truffle sauce that turned out to be a real revelation. The sauce was so delightful that we couldn’t resist ordering an extra portion to accompany our main dishes, even though it wasn’t on the menu.
For the appetizer, we chose a traditional Spanish dish — bruschetta with tomatoes and garlic. A classic choice, and while it shines brighter in Spain, the local rendition was still quite good.
The main courses left us with mixed impressions. The pork schnitzel I ordered was generously served: two large pieces paired with French fries. It felt slightly dry, but the taste was good enough to earn a solid “four” in our book. It’s a portion big enough to share between two people. Meanwhile, the shrimp and asparagus risotto my husband chose surprised us with its texture — it resembled paella more than a traditional Italian risotto. That said, the flavor was pleasing, and we rated it a 4.5 on our personal scale.
Overall, the restaurant left a good impression. There’s room for improvement, but the gastronomic experience was memorable. We would definitely return for that...
