Every now and again you come across a new restaurant concept, in this case steak and unlimited quality pasta dishes and included (non-alcoholic) drink refills and you go, "wow someone has been thinking out of the box." I had a feeling Pasteako would be special and the difficulty in locking in a table (thank you Olga for your help) indicated that good news travels fast in HK. And wow it certainly is SUPERBLY good! We were greeted by the amazingly energetic and friendly Mr. Faycal, who invited us to select our steak knives from a wide selection in a glass cabinet at the entrance. A most cool idea and an exciting start to the evening. We had the immediate feeling that Faycal was more than one of the hosts and it turned out he is the uber talented and experienced and exceptionally hospitable Executive Chef at Pasteako, as well as the entire Chess House restaurant group. Faycal and his team served up a beautiful evening with EXTRA YUMMY food - From the perfectly balanced spinach salad to a wide selection of mouth watering pastas. Faycal delights in making sure your tastebuds dance with joy and wants you to go home stuffed - whilst simultaneously keeping a firm eye on his kitchen crew to ensure consistent, hot and tasty culinary treats are served up. Pasta offerings change regularly and are different at lunch and dinner. The different pastas were excellent, the Parmesan of super high quality - which is grated at your table - pesto, truffle, arabiata, lemone... each one was pure delight, hot, fresh and made in-house. Each time the crew comes out with a new pasta variety, a large copper ships bell is rung that sends gastronomic excitement through the dark wood panelled restaurant. Non-alcoholic drinks are served on a buy one, have as many as you want basis. Brilliant! The crowd on our visit was young and trendy - the place has a really nice vibe with a mutual feeling that you are sharing something special amongst new friends. The steak is black angus from the US and dry aged - and tastes great. You almost gloss over the steak, excited to see what the next serving of pasta might be. And then when you think it cannot get any better, they come round with their home made tiramisu, with quality dark chocolate shaved at your table. My guest, who was the F&B Director at HK's most famous 5 star hotel, thought it was the best tiramisu he had ever had. He had three servings and Chef Faycal was delighted to oblige. He wants you to leave with a big fat smile. A wonderful meal at very reasonable prices, an environment that wants you to stretch the 90 minute meal time-limit, and an experience you will want again and again. But the real surprise? You get to choose your own steak knife from an international display. It’s quirky, interactive, and oddly satisfying—like gearing up for a culinary adventure. 🄩 Food That Speaks for Itself The star of the show is the USDA Prime steak. Mine was cooked to a perfect medium—crusty on the outside, juicy and pink inside, seasoned simply with salt and pepper. No gimmicks, just pure beefy brilliance. The charcoal grill adds a smoky depth that’s hard to beat. šŸ Pasta Lovers, Rejoice Pasteako’s pasta isn’t just a sidekick—it’s a co-star. I tried the mezzi rigatoni in puttanesca sauce and pappardelle in truffle cream—both were rich, flavorful, and generously topped with cheese. The dinner set includes an appetizer, steak, pasta, and dessert starting from HK$388. Value for money lunch sets with good pastas As the name implies, people come here for both pasta and steak, which had opened for maybe 3 months by now. Their lunch sets are really value for money and it’s meant for your personalization. You can choose your pasta shape (5 options to choose from), select the sauce that you like (also 5 options to choose from) and pick your meat, whether you want a striploin or chicken breast, or upgrade to rib eye by supplementing $88. It also comes with a dessert, a lemon panna cotta. The plating is traditional Italian, with food in quite large portion, except for the salad (the salad wasn’t mentioned on the lunch set menu so it’s understandable that it’s smaller), rather than fancy modern Italian with very nice plating. Friendly staff overall and a nice-looking female hostess to greet you at the entrance, who asked you to pick a knife from the showcase. You just have to remember the number for your chosen knife and tell the server about it when placing your orders. I like this warm welcome and also the deco. We both ordered the organic penne, one with pesto sauce and the other one with mushroom sauce. Both were nice. We both had the striploin, as we wanted to try that quality first during our first visit. I asked for medium rare for my steak, while the server recommended medium, as their chef usually delivers a medium rare for a medium, hence I took his advice. The meat was very flavourful, unlike the other comments that I saw previously and it’s yummy. Maybe they’ve taken the comments and adjusted the marination already. The exterior was slightly too burnt I would say, while the bit of charcoal was easy to remove. Surprisingly the special designed knife that I picked, number 3, wasn’t that efficient in cutting. And when the steak was half way consumed, there was a big tendon there. And same for my friend’s, which we had to cut that away and ended up eating maybe 60-70% max of the steak. It could be better if the tendon wasn’t there. The lemon panna cotta was nice, while the lime peel sprinkled on top was too little. They could add a little more to make them look nicer.

And then when you think it cannot get any better, they come round with their home made tiramisu, with quality dark chocolate shaved at your table. My guest, who was the F&B Director at HK's most famous 5 star hotel, thought it was the best tiramisu he had ever had. He had three servings and Chef Faycal was delighted to oblige. Value for money lunch sets with good pastas

As the name implies, people come here for both pasta and steak, which had opened for maybe 3 months by now.

Their lunch sets are really value for money and it’s meant for your personalization. You can choose your pasta shape (5 options to choose from), select the sauce that you like (also 5 options to choose from) and pick your meat, whether you want a striploin or chicken breast, or upgrade to rib eye by supplementing $88. It also comes with a dessert, a lemon panna cotta.

The plating is traditional Italian, with food in quite large portion, except for the salad (the salad wasn’t mentioned on the lunch set menu so it’s understandable that it’s smaller), rather than fancy modern Italian with very nice plating. Friendly staff overall and a nice-looking female hostess to greet you at the entrance, who asked you to pick a knife from the showcase. You just have to remember the number for your chosen knife and tell the server about it when placing your orders. I like this warm welcome and also the deco.

We both ordered the organic penne, one with pesto sauce and the other one with mushroom sauce. Both were nice.

We both had the striploin, as we wanted to try that quality first during our first visit. I asked for medium rare for my steak, while the server recommended medium, as their chef usually delivers a medium rare for a medium, hence I took his advice. The meat was very flavourful, unlike the other comments that I saw previously and it’s yummy. Maybe they’ve taken the comments and adjusted the marination already. The exterior was slightly too burnt I would say, while the bit of charcoal was easy to remove. Surprisingly the special designed knife that I picked, number 3, wasn’t that efficient in cutting. And when the steak was half way consumed, there was a big tendon there. And same for my friend’s, which we had to cut that away and ended up eating maybe 60-70% max of the steak. It could be better if the tendon wasn’t there.
