We have stayed here a handful of nights this and last year in between nicer lodging (upper house, mandarin oriental, four seasons, and airbnbs), and while we literally just told the staff at the four seasons executive club lounge (arriving to this hotel at 7:30 pm on a sleepy and rainy Sunday) that it’s a great option if you have absolutely no money (my boyfriend has been unemployed since last year and owes me an actual fortune, so we stay at the crappiest places sometimes, in between the best, when traveling), but unfortunately, often times (even though the rooms are outdated, etc., which we know, and don’t necessarily mind, as the view is still better than you would expect, albeit not rare in HK), the service is atrocious (aside from a few select people who are great, and should be promoted).
Twice we have arrived having paid significantly more than the asking price when we actually get to the hotel (as in over double, because it plummets last minute with so much availability), and not only will they of course not honor the lower price, which is fine, our mistake, but they will tell us that no better rooms are available, even though every single room category is available on the website - as you’re standing there at the check-in desk.
This latest time it was extra frustrating as the Front desk manager, Larry (I’m sure that’s not his actual name), was blatantly rude - we had literally left the Four Seasons nearby and had stayed at LKF hotel just last week, but he couldn’t even be bothered to say hello (he acknowledged when we mentioned this to him that he knew we are repeat guests; he was rude when we arrived and just said “credit card.” as acknowledgment), but was friendly and polite to every backpacking guest that arrived. He then refused to give us any other (sitting empty) room until we virtually fought with him for about 10 minutes straight (not great and still priced significantly less than we paid; if you’re going to stay here book the absolute last minute. Aim for Harborview above the 21st floor, which mind you, are not expensive or nice, but you can see some harbour between the buildings).
Here is a picture from our last stay from last week where there was literally human feces on the toilet when we checked in, which we cleaned ourselves being fairly late at night when we saw it.
If they did away with certain staff members, such as the above, it would be what it is, a budget hotel in a great location that needs refurbishment (but honestly unlike other reviewers, I think it can get away with that, as it has the old China/Hong Kong vibe to it, but sure getting rid of scratches on the walls and other blatantly visually offensive things that don’t need to be present would be understandable), but unfortunately multiple times now we have had just the worst staff on earth (mixed with polite ones, but the bad apples are extreme. My boyfriend literally said “you’re laughing at me,” as he was, enjoying being rude).
I worked in restaurants and retail when I was in university and getting my doctorate and would have been terminated immediately for just one such transgression (and hated customer service, so would have loved to say nothing at all to any patron, but not be bold...
Read moreIf this hotel chooses to be enlisted as a quarantine hotel, I would expect a good system to deliver what it promises especially about the sanitary and anti-epidemic control measures. However I am disappointed because it is not the case: the room is filthy; the telephone in the room is dusty; the windowsill is full of sticky stains; the windows that supposed to give me a million-dollar harbor view (which I have paid extra for that!) are grimy and mucky; The drain in the shower stall clogs easily....
I am even more disappointed at the meal arrangement for my compulsory 21 days quarantine. Firstly, the hotel only offers a very short 7-day menu cycle with a very limited food selection, which means I have to repeat the same food selection for 3 consecutive weeks. Secondly, although I don't expect gourmet food to be served, the food quality is far below from an average person's expectation. For instance, when the food is delivered, the food temperature is often not served at the right temperature which raises sanitary issues. Milk that goes with cereal is not cold (it was not carton milk but served in a paper cup), tea, coffee, and baked entrees are barely warm. Both lunch and dinner meal boxes are just left outside the room without exterior protection. Thirdly, all meals come without utensils; there are only reusable utensil sets in the room for self-cleaning. I strongly believe that it is not an ideal situation for this "environmental friendly" practice especially when I use the only sink in the tiny bathroom to wash the utensils with bare hands while nobody would clean my room during my entire stay. I feel awful to wash my face, brush my teeth, and wash soiled utensils in the same sink!!
On a separate note, the room I stay is smaller than it officially claims. I paid extra to stay in a larger harbor-view room (23sq.m) than a normal city-view room (19sq.m). As I measured my room with a measuring tape, it turns out to be less than 18 sq.m. I wonder if the harbor view room is actually the same size as that of city view room; or the city view room is even smaller!
Of all the unhappy experiences that I have so far on my 7th day of stay, I must say that customer service of the hotel is satisfactory:- the clogged drain was handled swiftly; the luke-warm soup that I ordered through Dorsett Mart was replaced immediately; all my requests through the front desk / operator are timely handled. I hope the meal handling and sanitary issues will be addressed professionally and improved for the rest of my stay, and for...
Read moreI stayed at the Harbor Suite Lan Kwai Fong hotel during my 21-days quarantine from Jan-Feb 2021. I was deeply disappointed and felt grossly cheated at misrepresentation of the facts by the hotel and its poor service. The room size listed on the website (420 sq ft) turned out to be 330 sq ft in actual. The hotel informed me that their website showed the gross area and claimed it to be the hotel practice in Hong Kong. THIS IS SIMPLY UNTRUE as several other hotels have confirmed to me.
I chose this suite despite its unusually exorbitant price, purely because of the advertised a large-size room in central location. A price that was significantly increased for quarantine guests and more expensive than the Kerry Hotel and comparable to the Mandarin. Despite this, it was particularly important and worth significant additional expense because I have claustrophobia. More so because I was to be confined to this for 21 days.
The hotel refused to make any changes and insisted that it was fair policy to list the gross area of the room on their website without specifying it. They failed to explain how gross the area was relevant during quarantine as the guests were totally confined to their room, even during a fire drill.
It seems clear to me that the hotel is trying to cheat the guests during an already mentally harrowing 21-day quarantine. It is so unfortunate that hotels like this are trying to exploit the unprecedented grave pandemic situation to fleece innocent Hong Kong residents.
Their food and overall linen quality left much to be desired -- given the significant price difference between the suites and regular rooms, it seems unthinkable why the same mediocre quality would be provided to the suite occupants. I complained about the quality of the food but nothing was done to improve. Surely this is not befitting the price commanded for the hotel.
All I can say -- DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Its business practices and service are deplorable, and it is not worth the...
