A renown Chinese Restaurant serving authentic Chui Chow cuisine 潮州菜。 It claims it serves high standard Chui Chow dishes. Frankly speaking I would say they serve decent Chui Chow food in stead. One of their icon dish, cold crab I must say is no difference from other Chui Chow food restaurant. The main difference is the size of the crab. But so long if a customer can pay good money, any restaurant can get them the big size crab. Today's lunch is an enjoyment, with two big size cold crab, one big snapper, marinated goose wings and meat, roast duck in bean paste and traditional Chui Chow vegitable wth soup base plus a very earthly desert. It is a treat from a good friend who hosts similar Chinese New Year lunch once every year. But a warning, about 30 years ago I suffered serious food poisoning after eating cold prawn 芘芭蝦 there during Chinese New Year holiday and had stopped going back for more than a decade. Cold sea food is a high risk dish. It will easily turn bad or be contaminated if not...
Read moreAverage food, but very dishonest server/cook! We ordered a few dishes $50-80 range, then he aggressively suggested "pei pa" prawns. We accepted but didn't ask the price, thinking that it was in the same range as everything else we had ordered. That dish arrived quickly... 5 pieces of fairly tasty prawn. Final bill arrived.... that one dish alone was $480! This restaurant doesn't have a menu and all dishes with prices are posted along the walls. But, unsurprisingly, they didn't have anything showing pei pa prawns for $480. VERY dishonest and completely unexpected in this day and age. BAD BAD BAD! You should be thrown in jail for that kind of scam. DO NOT GO HERE. There are multiple better Chiu Chow restaurants in the area. e.g. Carrianna in the nearby mall is an old-school restaurant with a LONG and illustrious history in...
Read moreA quarter of Hong Kong people originate from chiu chiu aka swatou. This place serves classic authentic chiu chau cuisine at reasonable prices. Be warned, if you order certain items like cold crab or 三刀fish, it can get very expensive. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the younger staff speaks English. They serve kung fu tea before and after the meal. The tea is very strong, and served in shots. To name a few specialities, they have fish noodles(魚麵), marinated geese and innards(鹵水鵝片鵝腸), fried oyster omelettes(煎蠔餅).
Nobody will try to rip you off here, but not all items are priced, and many seafood items may vary in price and availability. Fish is nice here, and one of the many ways they are served is cold with soy bean paste.
They have desert as well, fried or mashed yam...
