First of all, i am indonesian lives in Hong Kong and actively looking for decent authentic Indonesian food. Unfortunately as a matter of fact it is hard to find a decent Indonesian food in Hong Kong despite over 100K Indonesian live in Hong Kong at the moment..
Me and my wife tried several times to try this restaurant but not lucky enough to find the restaurant close during COVID. And today we have the chance to try this restaurant aside from the michelin bib gourmand badge, we just want a good simple Indonesian food.
We tried a lontong cap go meh and nasi kuning (nasi campur with nasi kuning instead of nasi putih).. lontong cap go meh more to medanese style with authentic indonesian rendang taste. For the nasi kuning, the nasi kuning is so fragrant and the rice is tender so good! Rendang and ayam goreng also good very similar what we had in Indonesia especially the street food style..
We also had buah atep with marjan syrup! Definitely feels like home..
Will be coming back again very soon and try...
Read moreI wanted to like this place but I thought that the food was ok. The price is fairly reasonable but I wouldn’t call it cheap given the location and cha can ting like environment. I probably won’t be back since it’s so far out of the way from anywhere I would normally go.
Food: 3.25 stars Service/environment: 3 stars Value: 3.75 stars Recommendations: Indonesian fried rice
We ordered the oxtail soup, Indonesian fried rice, fried chicken rice and beef sate.
Oxtail soup - This is a tomato based soup and the oxtail had a real gamey taste to it. Didn’t really like it too much
beef sate- the flavor is good but the cooking of the meat is not. If you don’t mind we’ll done beef than you may like this. I found the beef too tough.
fried chicken - taste of the chicken was good but the chicken was really quite dry. A lot of white rice and not a lot of chicken. I wouldn’t order this again.
Indonesian fried rice - This was built far the best dish we had. This is definitely...
It’s a good restaurant to come for Indonesian food. If you’re after such a specific cuisine then it’s good, but that’s only because it’s the top of the field with very few other good Indonesian restaurants. I assume that’s why it got the Michelin award but lost it in 2023. The price is really reasonable, I was very impressed.
The crispy chicken was a bit dry, lacked flavour and it was over crisped. The skewers were okay but the meat was small, stringy and the sauce needed a stronger satay. The fried rice was probably the best dish of the day. The bread was basically shop bought and oven warmed. The vegetables were really good, nice and fresh with subtle yet appropriate garnishes. Overall, I was happy with the meal but I...
