Loushang Hotpot — Restaurant in Shanghai

4 months in China and this was the worst food and worst experience ever. The place looks shabby, the plastic menu cheap. The food was priced at Michelin star level, without the star quality. I didn't want the hotpot (100-350 RMB for the broth alone), to which one has to add every single ingredient at ludicrously high prices. One can easily spend 1000 RMB for a basic meal. All the seafood was priced at 'market level', i.e. no clear prices given which sounds primitive in digital age. I hoped to get the acclaimed Clay Rice (158-188 RMB). But the waiter announced a 50 minutes preparation time, for a rice bowl! I had to go for stir fried side dishes, which tend to be delicious and generous in China. Not here. The only vegetable option, Wide Beans and Eggs, was sold out. I opted for plain Goose Wings (98 RMB), served with a minibowl of rice (6 RMB!). The small dish looked uninspiring, felt old and dry, with no aroma at all. For worse, the wings were rather chopped broken bones, difficult to handle and dangerous to the palate. Obviously, being alone and with a meager order, I wasn't treated too well, but staff is plentily available. Pinnacle of robbery, when the bill arrived, it exhibited an extra 3 RMB for my usage of the apparently complimenary plastic wrapped wet towel, which is a basic on any table. I knew it was my mistake to choose this place: a full 5.0 rating must be unbelievably fake. Lou Shang must be the ultimate tourist trap. I gave a 2 star for not having tried their broth, but I certainly wouldn't come...

This is like Rolls Royce of steamboat ! Strongly advise to reserve before coming to avoid disappointment as the place is not too big . Located at Jing An Kerry centre it’s outside of mall area near drop off at Tower 1.

They have large variety of soup base to choose from but they may caught our eye is the Teochew Sichuan vegetable and pig stomach soup .

Their appetisers are amazing too , had the fried sweet corn and marinated pork ribs .

Their meats are presented beautifully ,one of the servers will personally cook for you during dinner time and if you order prawns they will feel off the shell . Excellent service !

The ingredients are fresh and hence tasted nice when cooked in the hot pot.
