The only One star Lu Cuisine in Shanghai. Recommend to have a try if really craving for some Lu cuisine in Shanghai. I did not make any reservation and walk in for this time. Ordered the set menu for dinner. It starts with fruits platter(tomato and apple): both good but not excellent. Next comes the seafood in chili sauce: normal and refreshing. The mullet egg soup is great. It falls on the typical salty side, with sour flavour from the vinegar and a little spicy flavour from the white pepper. It is refreshing and without any odour. The shandong pancake is also great and highly recommend to let the waitress help make it. With each bite, can enjoy the freshness of leaf lettuce, rocket lettuce and scallion, the crunchiness of deep fried noodles, the umami of dried shrimp, fried shrimp and pepper salt. The main course is the braised sea cucumber with scallions and Sporisorium reilianum. The texture of sea cucumber is great. The scallion is well cooked using the scallion oil. The sauce is of great umami. Overall, it taste great but falls on the slightly sweet side( not super authentic but totally understandable). The sautéed sliced yellow fish disappointed me. There are six bones found in the dish. Forgetting the bones, the colour and presentation is beautiful, the fish is tender, and the flavour is at the right point. The braised jumbo prawn with cabbage is good. The prawn is well trimmed but taste normal. It is suspected not alive before prepping. The cabbage is full of umami from the prawn oil and tastes good. One downside for me is that it lacks richness in term of flavour: the sweet is too strong and overwhelm the remaining flavour such as sour and salty. For the rest, the mackerel dumpling is normal. Yogurt also normal. Service up to standard and same goes for the atmosphere. In short, it serves good Lu cuisine in Shanghai. The braised sea cucumber with scallions is a must try and will bring my friend...
