A welcoming, non-pretentious, relaxing, and authentic Peruvian restaurant. Thanks to our good friend, we found out about this place. Our friend is from Peru and has tried a handful of Peruvian restaurants in Bogota and definitely says this place is the most authentic. Why? They actually import many of their ingredients from Peru and the chef and manager are locals from Peru.
Unlike most of the overpriced and high-end Peruvian restaurants in town, Machu Picchu has an incredibly hospitable vibe. The vibe is set immediately by the manager Cesar Augusto who quirkily introduces the chef specials on the menu. The staff is very accommodating and respectful and even the chef came out to greet us and is just a lovely woman! Machu Picchu feels like home.
The menu its self is quite large with loads to choose from. We choose a few of the specials and enjoyed every dish we had! The Jalea was lightly fried, fresh, and disappeared quickly. The Causa de tuna was huge and really delicious, true comfort food. The ceviche mixto was very refreshing and flavorful, we loved the leche de tigre sauce! The Arroz chaufa de mariscos felt very much like authentic Chinese fried rice which is the influence of this dish.
The desserts were all just as amazing. Normally many desserts are just way too sweet for me, but here everything was perfectly balanced. The Combinado was surprisingly flavorful with great texture. The best was definitely the Flan de lucuma, one of the best flans we have ever had and a great dessert not to be missed! Lucuma is a fruit found only in Peru and Ecuador so it was our first time having it and our friend confirmed its authentic flavor.
Lastly, for those who enjoy their drinks the pisco sours were delightfully addicting and are a must try! But be careful they can get you pretty drunk easily ;) . We also had a shot of the pisco liquor which was very smooth. For non drinkers and children, the chicha morada is something fun and easy to drink.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for everyone! It’s a taste of not only amazing Peruvian food but also a taste of Peruvian hospitality.
Gracias Machu Picchu por todo! We will...
Read moreOur server was Joel, who was amazing. He was very friendly, had an excellent attitude, and never failed to make us laugh. He even offered to take our picture and it turned out very nice. We were originally going to get four plates to share, but Joel recommended we get three and it was the perfect amount of food. His recommendations for the plates were also excellent. We ordered two plates of the Lomo Saltado (extremely tender with a delicious sauce) and one plate of the Filete a lo Macho (crispy, flaky fish with a delicious seafood sauce). As for drinks, we decided to get a pitcher of Chicha Morada which was tasty, but a bit too sweet for our taste, and we enjoyed a couple of strong and flavorful Pisco Sours. Joel also graced us with a small plate of Chicharrón de Calamar with a very tasty yellow sauce, which can be seen in some of the photos here (though its name escapes me). Lastly, we had two desserts, each half Arroz con Leche and half Mazamorra Morada, both of which were very delicious. Overall, the atmosphere was cozy, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. My only regret is that I didn’t try...
Read moreI recently dined at Restaurante Peruano - El Indio de Machu Picchu and had the pleasure of trying their Lomo Saltado. The dish was undeniably delicious, filled with the tantalizing flavors of tender beef, sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and fries – a true Peruvian delight.
However, my dining experience left me feeling that the price was a bit on the higher side for the portion served. While the quality of the ingredients and the preparation were top-notch, the cost seemed slightly disproportionate to what I expected.
Despite the pricing concern, I must emphasize the superb taste and authenticity of the Lomo Saltado. The flavors transported me to the heart of Peru, and the ambiance of the restaurant enhanced the overall experience.
If you're willing to splurge a little for an authentic Peruvian culinary journey, Restaurante Peruano - El Indio de Machu Picchu is worth a visit. Just be prepared to pay a premium for the fantastic...
