The hotel and staff were great but STAY AWAY FROM THE MASSAGE AT ALL COSTS!The hotel offers a “free 15 minute massage” with your stay from a woman named Vicki. It was hands down the worst “massage” I have ever had. I gave very clear instructions with the assistance of Google Translate that I needed my neck, shoulders and upper back rubbed. Started off ok face up with some light pressure around C1 when she suddenly grabbed the base of my skull and chin and wrenched my head, cracking my neck! One of the reasons I go to massage therapists is because I don’t do chiropractic...ever. I complained to her and she actually laughed and told me to roll onto my stomach. I did so and she proceeded to try and crack my fingers, wrists, elbows and arms. I tensed and told her no repeatedly until she gave up yanking at my arm. She moved to the other side and tried to do the same thing. Again I told her no repeatedly until she stopped. She moved up to the base of my neck and started to rub the muscles. That only lasted about 15 seconds, then she started waving her hands back and forth about 3-4” above my back. I don’t know if she was attempting to do Rekei or what. I angrily told her to just rub my neck please. She finally did, applying some decent medium pressure on my upper back and neck...for all of a minute after which she announced I was done. The whole encounter took maybe 5-6 minutes.I am not normally this negative, but she was a complete hack, who refused to listen or follow simple directions and who laughed and cackled madly when I complained. Take advantage of my experience and don’t bother. On other services, Diego and the desk staff were awesome and very helpful. The food in the restaurant...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at this hotel about 3 years ago. I was on my last night in Bogota for a US Government project , staying in a corner room on floor 5. I had a hard time sleeping so was watching a movie on my laptop in bed. Just before midnight, I realized all of a sudden that the weird rasping sound I’d been hearing out in the hallway was someone AT MY DOOR, and at that instant I heard the door open. I screamed as I ran out into the front room of the suite to see that a man had SAWED THROUGH the safety latch from the hallway and was forcing the door open. His face was pushing through the opening. I yelled again, slammed the door in his face, holding it shut and re-locking the door as I heard him running down the hall. I reached out to the phone on the front desk and called reception. The response of the man at the front desk was to apologize and say Oh, that must have been the maintenance man going to the wrong room- he was going to fix an air conditioner in a vacant room but must have made a mistake. I was super tired, leaving at 5:00 am and somehow didn’t want to get any hapless maintenance person in trouble. I went back to bed but did not sleep all night. I was terrified. As a single woman traveling alone all over the globe for the past 25 years, this had never happened. The hotel’s excuse is totally unsatisfactory— why would a maintenance person going to fix an AC unit in a vacant room saw through a safety latch and break into a room with lights ablaze and a movie playing? What if I had been sleeping and not heard the door open? This haunts me, have not been able to sleep well in hotel...
Read moreOverall, I had a decent 2 night stay here though there are a few areas for improvement.
Positives: good location, in a safe neighborhood with many restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The breakfast is quite good and the level of quality you’d expect from an Embassy Suites (excellent omelet station as always). The front desk staff was helpful and never seemed to be bothered with my many questions. The breakfast staff were all delightful and patient with my poor Spanish. Though I didn’t take advantage of it, there’s an evening cocktail hour for guests and they had live music on at least one of the nights. Very decent and well equipped gym. The 2 room suite was comfortable though furniture is a bit dated (great shower).
Negatives: The coffee maker in my room didn’t work. The on-site restaurant unfortunately has very poor quality food outside of breakfast. No 24 hour room service and all the restaurants near by close at 10pm (if you don’t have a Colombian credit card you can’t use local food delivery apps). The hotel can order burgers from a local restaurant for delivery, but unfortunately they’re extremely low quality and barely edible so I can’t recommend that option.
So, it’s a solid hotel overall, but could be excellent if they address some of the...
