Mare Restaurante — Restaurant in Cartagena

Looking at all the other highly complimentary reviews, I'm beginning to think we came to the wrong restaurant or it was the chef's night off.

This was our worst meal in a week in Columbia and one of my most disappointing meals in a long time. We were looking for some decent seafood but I thought the menu selection was limited in that area despite the restaurant's name.

We had the octopus and the lobster roll and in both cases it looked like they had bought the poorer quality items as the octopus was finely chopped and the pieces very small. The same applied to the lobster where you couldn't see any sizable pieces. The roll it came in was burnt.

The galling thing was that the gin they served me (without asking for a choice) was Hendricks and when I looked at the bill it was almost as much as the food! At least have the courtesy to give me a choice rather than leaving me feeling I've been had.

I know a number of people commented positively on the set up/ambience but it didn't work for me and felt slightly tacky.

This place is a hidden gem!!!! I’m a foodie and a cook 🧑‍🍳, and when I say a good chef doesn’t need salt to make a food taste good, I mean it . And every dish from this place portrays an Amazing Chef!!! And our waiter Brandon was very knowledgeable and stand by every food he recommended 👍 Thanks for taking on my challenge of “” If I Don’t Like It, You Pay For It “”” The picture of empty plates speaks volumes 😃🫣🫣 Please don’t change Chef until we come back again 🙏🏽😃

The place is beautiful, and the customer service beyond expectations. There is only digital menu (I prefer a real menu), but they provided us with an iPad (bigger screen) to look at the menu. We wanted a seafood restaurant, but I'm glad they had options for everyone. My kid ordered pizza and it was amazing. The cocktails were very good. The best part of this place was the personalized attention we received from Alvaro. He took the time to answer all our questions and provide us with information to continue our tour...
