I paid the equivalent of $23 USD for two mediocre tacos (the chicken chipotle ones), pictured below, and a MOCKTAIL, clearly marked as a mocktail on the restaurant menu, to which they added alcohol (!) without my knowledge or consent.
Upon receiving my bill, they charged me an additional $6 USD equivalent for alcohol that I did not ask for. When I stated I had not asked for alcohol and did not taste it in my drink (they said it was gin, which I would know the taste of), they informed me it was a “muy suave” (very smooth) alcohol so that’s probably why I didn’t taste it and insisted I pay for it regardless.
Not only was this meal not worth the $12 USD equivalent it cost, but the mocktail having alcohol added to it without my consent or knowledge and then being forced to pay for it was incredibly frustrating and a massive issue. Luckily I am abstaining from alcohol simply because I feel like it and do not have any religious or health reasons that require it.
Shame on this restaurant and staff for not making things right by removing the alcohol up charge from my bill and for making it worse by saying that I couldn’t taste it because it was a very smooth alcohol. That is very creepy behavior and akin to spiking people’s drinks.
Do not recommend dining in this establishment. Food in Costa Rica is expensive no matter where you go, and you would be better served at any of the other restaurants on...
Read moreFirst reatuarant we tried when we landed and it was different from what we expected but in a good way. We are use to the traditional Mexican spices so we thought it wpuld be somewhat similar but it was more on the sweet side. We started off with the appetizer sampler and it was great, it had fried fish, fried mozzarella topped with fried plantain, ceviche on a muffin(honestly didnt know what it was), and chicken quesadillas. The ceviche needed a sauce it ended up being to dry but my favorite was the fried mozzarella with plantain real good combo worth a try for sure. I had gallos chorizo which was jist a huge taco with sausage spring mix avacado, and some type of sauce on a home made tortilla. They give you 2 but believe me its enough. The pizza does not have a traditional marinara instead isnt a different sauce that at lets you know yes this is your comfort food but with a cultural twist. All in all flavor was ok but still felt like a touristy place. For the travelers of you dont know how to read in spanish good luck bc the menu is in all spanish but Im more than positive youll be able to find a waitress that...
Read moreI have not yet tried the food at Agüizotes Gastro Pub, but my hostel friend and I were looking for a cool spot to #SipAndChill... so we stopped here for the evening. Easy to locate on the corner, not far from Hostel Finca Escalante; we found a couple bar stools on the patio, to enjoy conversation of past and future plans while in Costa Rica. Typically the "Barrio Escalante" area is a lively but peaceful grid of easy-to-walk streets during the day. It wasn't long before I learned that my quiet nights out were only a weekday occurrence. On the weekends, this trendy neighborhood welcomes some of the wealthier and more posh urban crowds with #squadgoals, #datenight, and #selfie moments worthy of #TheGram. Dressing-to-impress is not uncommon Friday thru Saturday. Agüizotes accepts USD and card (for a small exchange fee); my two Moscow Mules left me feeling nice and only set me back 6 Mil Colones before fees (approx $13 USD). I could see myself coming here again to try the food or night out with bae! #lapuravida #IGgoals #SanJose #CostaRica 🇨🇷😍...
