I generally love using small family owned places to stay. I don't expect 4 star accommodations, but I do expect at least a clean, non hazardous room.||||My first room:||No water at all came out of hot water faucet. They came and made a show of looking at it, but clearly they knew about this issue.||Lots of mold on walls in the room and on the shower curtain in the bathroom.||Very dingy room overall.||Modern TV worked fine. ||||I complained about the room and they gave me a different room:||Mold on wall in shower (not as bad as 1st room)||Bathroom window broken and wont close. No screen on it. ||Hot water didnt last very long. ||Old tv. No remote. Volume button broken. ||Bed felt really damp. I luckily had a small blanket in my luggage and wrapped myself in that so I couldn't feel the damp bed.||No place to put luggage but on floor. ||Door opens out...could become trapped in a fire.||||The next morning i told them I was checking out and they offered me another room that had 4 or 5 beds in it, and when I tested the water, there was no hot water so I refused it. They then offered me a 4th room but the current guest was still in it so I couldn't check it. After 3 rooms being unacceptable, I declined and asked for a refund for the 2 nights I wasn't going to stay there. I also asked for a refund of the 2 breakfasts I had paid for separate from the room. The desk person said she had to wait until the next day to do a refund as my payment from the day before hadn't registered yet (a lie) and to send her an email the next day. I sent the email and she told me because they offered me a 4th room and I declined they would not refund my money. They also did not refund my money for the 2 breakfasts I was not there to eat.||||Eating area:||Dirty floor ||Dirty table ||Broken down rusty thing in garden ||Raggedy unkempt garden ||Muddy ground ||||Whole place felt unclean and damp. This could be a charming hotel if they would clean it and fix the water problems. It is within 2 blocks of a lot of very good restaurants. ||||I got very sick after staying in this hotel. I had been in Costa Rica for 9 days before staying here and I can't help but think sleeping in a damp bed and being exposed to mold and maybe some insect that flew in the broken, unscreened window had something to do with that. ||||When I left here I went to KC Hotel which was the same $50 per night price and was very nice. The fact that the desk clerk told me she would refund my 2 nights and then the next day tell me they offered me a 4th room that I declined they wouldn't refund my money is nothing short of trickery and theft...
Read moreI stayed here a couple times on my recent visit and was very dissapointed by the way they organise their room sand treated us. I had booked through booking.com each time the family room with two double beds. The two first times they said that there were no rooms with double beds in their hotel, which I did not believe, but offered us a room with two single beds which was okay as for the price it still was cheap. On our third stay however we arrrived and they gave us a room with a single double bed claiming that was what we had booked. I showed them on booking.com that we had booked a family room, but they claimed since it then went through a different service they had recieved different information and refused to give us the room we booked unless we paid a surcharge. The man at reception was very hostile about this and told us it was OUR FAULT and to take it up with Booking.com!! We ended up having to pay an extra 45 dollars to stay in the room we booked, which remember, he had said did not exist on previous stays, and it was on us to challenge booking.com. We spent an hour on the phone to be told we'd get a refund, but a month later I have still not recieved it. I find it disgraceful at how dishonest the owner is to have lied to us but also to have his rooms available on booking.com, even though he knows you are not booking what is shown. On top of this he hostility and agression we felt and the lack of any kind of help to resort the issue is why it gets this review. The rooms are also in desperate need of attention and refurbishment. Read moreWe arrived to the hotel on a Friday night and were greeted by Jorge, he checked us in, He put us in a room that had a large screen television from the 1990's the beds were very old and the bathroom had a urine smell. Jorge moved us to another room that was better. They gave us two towels and no towel for the floor. out of the 3 night we stayed only one day our room was cleaned, I really don't think that was in their control because that was the same morning that there was not hot water. We had to wait after breakfast to take a shower in order for the staff to fix the problem. The staff was very friendly and did their best under the circumstances of a very old hotel that has not updated their rooms. ||||The breakfast served was very good, they give you three choices, We had the traditional costa rican breakfast, the Gallo Pinto was very good, and the fresh fruit was fresh, The coffee was o.k, we asked for milk and Jorge gave it to use without charging us. ||||I would suggest to bring ear plugs because its near the train, you can hear the train whistle in the hotel. Also Calle 33, the gastronomy street is nearby very close to Pandelli, Sofia among other restaurants. The hotel only offers breakfast, they had snacks for sale at the reception at inflated prices ($3 for ramen noodles). The wifi...
