I booked a couple additional nights before my tour started at this hotel. I was happy with how clean the facilities were and I thought the staff was nice my entire stay. Really good breakfast. My second day, the morning ran out of water in my room so I couldn't shower properly. That happens when you travel and I didn't say anything.
The issue I had and the reason I gave less stars is the hotel has a policy to not use the towels for make up removal. I reused my towel my entire stay and I got some small stains on it. I didn't purposely use the towel to remove my make up but they charged me $10USD for the dirty towel and said they have to pay the cleaning company for extra stain removal. After I paid, the receptionist gave me the towel and said "you can keep it". I enjoyed my stay up until that point and it was unfortunate a couple stains on a towel = "damage" fees! You know I didn't have housekeeping service after my first night either (I didn't need it and it saved them some money and time) and I had that little water issue in the shower that I could have said something about but didn't. I'm not too fussy when it come to hotels. But when you are treated like this, it is a fairly disappointing. Take my money and give me a...
Read moreBoutique Hotel Casa Orquídeas Not far from the busy central part of San Jose, this quaint hotel has a lot to offer visitors. Our room had two double beds, a sweet little nook with two chairs and a side table. We also had a good sized bathroom and a small bar fridge plus tv on the wall. The usual fan but nice to have air conditioning. Safe in wardrobe. Most grateful for the abundance of power points which thankfully were next to the bed. It’s all about the wifi and recharging your phone these days. There are some cute little nooks within this hotel, that have comfy couches, coffee tables, small library etc. Perfect to get some space from to yourself or if in a working holiday. Staff were so nice and patient with me practising my appalling Spanish on them. Breakfast is optional and the dining area is small. Thank you to everyone at the hotel who made my stay special.

Read moreI stayed here before my G adventure trip and on the last night prior to heading home, so I was able to see 3 different room set ups. The double room was practical, had a safe, an overhead fan and a window to outside. The second room I was in had a vestibule with a couch and TV. It was enough space for our luggage no outside window but one into a court yard. The last room was two beds and a table, less space for our luggage. The staff were very friendly and helpful! They were more than happy to help me learn/ improve my Spanish as I tried to converse in the broken amount that I know. Plus there was a super market half a block away if you didn't want to pay for breakfast. I felt very safe in this hotel. The front door was always kept locked and a bell needed to be rung...
