We are in Costa Rica for a wedding and are vegan which can be difficult when traveling but we have been amazed by the offerings and places tee Were referred to that made us a special vegan meal. This place is 100% vegan! The food is more pub food but the make some of their own burger patties and their own hot dogs. They are incredible! We sat and had the hot dog on location and we split it. The flavor and how they dress it was superb, you can’t get a full bite because of the size of the bun. The only thing I would change is to cut the hot dog in half and lay across the bun so you get a bite of everything g in one bite. This way in each bit you get a taste of the topppings and the hot dog in every bite. I guess you could request it that way or cut it yourself but it was our first time here. We took the PANTERA ROSA O NEGRO back to our hotel. This is the first burger they ever made and offered. It was also amazing! I wish we could have to recipies to make these both back home in the USA. They share the dining area with a vegan bakery but if you have any food allergies DO NOT EAT AT THIS BAKERY. We told them my wife had a peanut allergy and they assured us the desserts they sold us didn’t have any peanuts .well after taking a bite of cheesecake her tongue went numb and she immediately stopped eating it. We again asked about peanuts or possible food contamination. The girl Went back to the kitchen send assured us they take precautions. So we leave and when we get back to our room my wife takes a bite of the third dessert and immediately start choking and committing from an anaphylactic reaction. Thank God I had her epinephrine pen with us to save her life. Apparently they don’t care if they kill their customers and obviously have no idea what food contamination is and how to prevent it. Unbelievable! I still gave the restaurant side of this business good reviews. The kitchens are separate and they confirmed and my wife...
Read moreI came away with a mixed opinion of Huacamole after two very different meals.
The first meal we ordered delivery via Uber Eats to our hotel. Our Tacos de Sodita and Sandwich Tico arrived as if they had just come out of the restaurant kitchen - still warm and not at all soggy from the take-away containers. The Tacos de Sodita were particularly great, with fresh veggies, a crunchy shell, and crispy banana/chickpea falafel balls, while the Sandwich Tico was stuffed with veggies and flavorful mushrooms.
Our second meal was an in-person visit to the restaurant. The restaurant itself has a great vibe, with abundant neon lighting and colorful murals of food and Costa Rican animals adorning the walls. However, our food - the Oyster Chick'n Chipotle Burger and Huacamole Vegan Chick'n Burger - were fairly disappointing. The Oyster Burger, while massive, had little if any chipotle flavor. The fried mushrooms had an excellent crunch, but they included the stems, which were extremely chewy and resulted in pulling entire mushrooms out of the burger at a time. The Huacamole Chick'n Burger's soy patty was a bit mushy, but otherwise tasted quite good. The fries were the biggest disappointment - undercooked and soft, with an odd dipping sauce (tomato sauce?) - they went mostly uneaten.
So is Huacamole worth the visit? Certainly! Just steer clear of the burgers and fries and you're likely to have a...
