I ordered via Uber Delivery approximately 15,000 colones in food. That's 30 USD. Only 1 of 2 dishes arrived and the drink ordered was half size. I can only rate the service and food. I'm not happy. I tried calling via an international phone number and it didn't execute. I tried via WhatsApp as suggested. It didn't work. I'm getting a local Costa Rican to call as we speak. I'm upset because one meal doesn't serve two people. Both Uber and Colonia will get this review for not packing the food appropriately. The one meal was slammed into the box and the box is too small for the food. I can understand giving an extra 10cm to keep it from sliding around on an order, but this was mashed together as if I was having a fusion of food that was slammed on top of each order. I'm frustrated and this must be taken seriously. Ideally I can come out to the restaurant myself this weekend. If you don't want my experience, I highly recommend Cafe Roja (Vietnamese), Cafeotecha a few blocks away (especially brunch and lunch)--there are about 30 restaurants between Escalante and San Pedro. I hope this gets handled appropriately and in a timely manner. Cheerio.
I'll put 3 stars for the Atmosphere, but to be honest almost every restaurant in San Pedro and Escalante district have excellent...
Read moreI walked around Barrio Escalante last night in search of a small dinner and cocktails and ended up at Colonia Tovar Arepas & Bar. The outside patio area was lovely but it was a bit too chilly to sit outside. I ended up sitting at the bar.
I started with Arepitas Fritos - Little fried arepas with 3 dipping sauces, one guac based, one ranch based and a spicy one. SO GOOD! I find myself craving those already.
For my meal I had one of the Arepas with chicken and pesto (I don't remember the name). Since I had cheese in the starter, I wanted something "brighter" for dinner and this did not disappoint. It was a good mix of Italian flavorings with the classic Arepa.
To drink I had one of their homemade elixers: Envenenáte. Similar to a sangria, it was fruity, flavorful and not overly sweet.
The locals that came in were chatty and easy to talk to. So far, this is my favorite place in the San Jose area....
