I visited Costa Rica for a birthday trip and when returning home through the airport I wanted a nice healthy breakfast. Selecting this place I stood in line behind 3 other customers, no one was behind me. Once I got to the register, the cashier turned around and started filling orders. I’ve worked in fast food, I thought nothing of it. But after a few minutes and him never greeting me, not even “one moment I’ll be right with you”, I started questioning if I was being ignored. Finally a women walked up and asked what I wanted, the male cashier never returned to help me. She too was not friendly and very cold, stark contrast from the customers that were helped before me. I witnessed the interactions! After taking my order I walked away but realized I needed my food in a to-go container, other people were receiving trays. I wasn’t asked if I wanted to dine-in or not, so I went back to the counter where the male cashier saw me coming and hurried to turn his back and walk away. The female who help me walked by me two times without acknowledging me. Finally I yelled, “excuse me!” She stops. “Yeah…” May I have my food in a to-go container?” “Sure”, was the response, never any eye contact. But everyone else got that and a smile, I’m watching to assess this treatment I’m receiving. Being a black woman living in America I’m used to it and just wanted my food. Once I did get my food, it was beyond disappointing. My stri-fry was barely cooked and had barely any sauce. I had to catch a flight so I just left. Puerto Viejo was amazing! Friendly, welcoming people. These people at this restaurant gave me a different outlook of the people in Costa Rica.
UPDATE Corporate contacted me only 2 days after my review and apologized for my experience, I felt heard and respected. However, I'm still leaving my initial review posted as what was done on the backend does not excuse the treatment I received from the two workers. If they are going to remain at the store, someone may go through the same heartbreaking experience and this review will be here to serve as...
Read morePretty good option for healthy and seemingly pretty fresh food. Everything is disposable tho, even when you dine in. When I asked if I could have a real plate / fork I was told it all gets composted. However, when I went to dispose of my stuff there was janitor there who told me it all just goes in the trash (only pure food waste can go in the tiny compost bin). IMO It’s just extremely lazy to generate so much extra waste bc you don’t want to pay a dishwasher and/or it’s easier. I was also bummed that when I specifically asked about this, they misrepresented it all. Most people might not care but I won’t go back until this is remedied. Costa Rica has a severe crisis de rellenos sanitarios (landfills) and it’s this exact type of corporate laziness that exacerbates the problem. Sin duda este comportamiento no es...
Read moreAmazing. Fresh is not enough to describe the quality and taste of the food. The avocado still had a piece of the branch from the tree where it grew. The staff is friendly and willing to help. Andrés Céspedes was more than willing to provide for my dietary restrictions. This man is not a chef, he is an artist who uses food for his color palette and a plate for his tapestry. Andrés Céspedes and his staff live by, strive for and achieve the unofficial slogan of Costa Rica 🇨🇷, Pura Vida. What a delicious way to celebrate the end of an awesome trip to this beautiful country. A pure and fresh snack to celebrate a great anniversary trip with my wife. I couldn’t have...
