Once we arrived in Samara we stopped in at Coco’s to have lunch. The bartender/server was unpleasant and seemed like we were inconveniencing her. My spanish is conversational so it wasn’t a language barrier that her attitude stemmed from. It’s also important to note that she had about 7 patrons in the entire establishment, definitely not an overwhelming situation.
However, the food was good so I decided to go back a couple days later and give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was having a bad day (as we all do sometimes) also hoping there would be another bartender/ server.
Unfortunately, my second experience was worse than the first with this staff member. I arrived solo this time and sat at the bar. I greeted her with a smile and a hello. She looked at me and tossed a menu down in front of me. I won’t go into every detail of her nasty disposition.
The owner was there and we spoke briefly of her attitude. He was agreeable and mentioned he was trying to work with her.
Bottom line, food is good but not that good to put up with that staff member. If I wanted attitude like that for no reason, I would have just stayed...
Read moreService was slow as usual as this seems to be the narrative in most restaurants so far. Server took the order and repeated it wrong and I corrected for him which he then confirmed it correctly. Food took about 45 mins and when it came out both orders were missing the simple modifications of no onions on one plate and add cheese on another, we continued eating without a complaint, when server finally asked if everything was ok towards the end of the meal I let the server know the mistakes and he just responded with “oh the cook did that sorry” and that was that but here’s what made me write a review as i don’t want visitors to go through the same frustration I did this evening, as a tourists paying with usd they will short change you and if you ask they will say they use a lower exchange rate. Even with the lower exchange rate they totally try and take 80-90 percent of the change that is owed, be aware or stay away from Places that will do this to visitors that feed...
Read moreWe always enjoy the Pura Vida atmosphere at Coco’s whether it’s the live music scene, Friday night karaoke or Happy Hour for drinks (best margaritas in town and one of the top Chiliguaros around). The menu is filled with delicious fresh ingredients as well as Tom’s (owner’s) hot sauces. Every meal can be paired with their refreshing on-tap in-house brewery for any palate (they have a beer-sampler platter!). Hands down, my favorite top three dishes are the sweet pork chimichanga, if you’re looking for an explosion of flavours in your mouth, the nachos (whichever kind) for that crunchy flavourful Mexican style craving, or if you’re looking for something lighter, I recommend the portobello quesadilla. Honorable mentions for the tacos, burritos, burgers, wings, fajitas, and...
