3 times in a row from all across town last week to get a primer rib. Unsuccessful endeavor. First time: Saturday March 16, there were only medium to well done prime ribs available al 9:00 p.m. (on a Saturday night!!!) . The waitress: "You should come for lunch if you want a rib". The restaurant manager: "we're sorry, please come back". Second time: Wednesday March 2, the same thing since there were only medium to well done prime ribs for lunch. I came all the way from across town and had to leave and missed my lunch time. The waitress: "I'm sorry, please don't be mad". Third time: Saturday March 23, again all the way from across town, I called in before hand in order to make sure everything was O.K.. Me (on the phone): "Do you guys carry medium rare prime ribs tonight?" The waitress: "Tonight, we only have medium to well done prime ribs". Me: "Darn!!! Should we go? (I know having a prime rib at any temperature over medium rare is a tasteless sacrilege!!!). My party: "Let's go, a prime rib, medium done, is better than nothing". Half hour later, the waitress: "We're sorry we do not have prime ribs tonight whatsoever". Me, to the Outback Steakhouse in Escazu: " You guys have a nice life, you won't see me again". The restaurante and its management team are the worst, not only for the lack of planning which the on-duty manager seemed to justify on 2 Saturday nights in-a-row, but also for his incompetence, his careless and indolent attitude towards customers, sham excuses and fake apologies. If you wish to have a bad customer service experience at an overpriced venue in Costa Rica, please visit the Outback Steakhouse in Escazu. They will make your day...
Read moreBeing from the USA (I am 1/2 Costa Rican) I have eaten at several Outback Steakhouse Restaurants in the USA and this one in Escazu, Costa Rica did not disappoint. Typically, I order the Blooming Onion, which I repeated here and it was just as tasty as ever. Instead of a steak, I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. The shrimp were as large as the Side Stripes we get in Wrangell, Alaska, and perfectly broiled before they were put on top of the pasta plate (as if arraigned as a garnish). Out of the four of us dining, not a single complaint. It was Mother's Day in Costa Rica, a Nationally recognized holiday, and the restaurant was packed, with a line outside. Now, I don't know if the manager had prepared for the rush or not, but damn... the employees were hustling and oh so courteous! I was very impressed, especially considering how busy they were. Our waitress (I regret not catching her name) was attentive, and even the busboy was courteous as we left and he was trying to clear the table for the next group. While eating, I watched as the manager went from table to table asking folk how they were enjoying their meal (including our table). The men's bathroom was spic and span, worthy of a Navy Head Inspection (a Head is the Navy term for a bathroom). Overall, worthy of Five Stars. Outhouse Steakhouse Corporate should be proud. To the management and crew... Well Done! Bravo Zulu (Navy Term for good job - you guys ROCK). Most Sincerely, Terrell...
Read moreThis is the second time I came to outback, the service is quite strange.
We asked for iced water, they brought bottled water. Usually restaurants will ask the customers before serving, because it's assumed to be tap water otherwise.
They used to serve complimentary breads, and we didn't receive any. When we asked, they said they only serve it if it's asked by the customers. The bread came out cold and dry, it was not even appetizing.
They charged 10% services, and I asked if that's the tips. They said no, tips is not included. I wonder what service is then if it's not for tips.
In a nutshell, the service is actually not friendly and quite rude and impatient.
The steak, fried mushrooms and onions are actually good. Just the portion for them are quite small. Oh, and the vegetables on the side tasted like frozen vegetables from the airplane meals. It was rubbery.
Probably won't be back for...
