Multiplaza Escazú — Local services in San Rafael

San Jose isn't exactly a tourist destination, so why not head to a popular mall, I'm not a mall rat, but there are situations calling for a visit; so why not try one that is a favorite with locals.

What I like when traveling is to find shops (mall or no mall) not available in my own country. These shops, often clothing, have fashions and designs that are distinctive and definitely unique. In this visit, I found a clothing store that has unique Colombian brand, and then another shop had Spanish and Brazilian clothes. Sharp looking and definitely worth it. I bought enough items that I had to purchase an bag to check at the airport, lol. This mall is well kept up, clean and full of people. It is completely safe and has enough unique shops to make the experience worth it. Of course you will find all the ubiquitous brands, and food outlets, i.e, McDonald's , KFC, Subway, as well as H&M, Columbia, Victoria's Secret etc. etc. Seen the world over.

There are plenty of food options and a grocery store that I bought coffee, definitely cheaper than in the tourist shops. I noticed plenty of cafes and coffee shops. Starbucks is here but not for me.

Great mall, literally every store you can think of. Found out it's the largest mall in all of Costa Rica. Within the mall they have a movie theater, grocery store, a gym, and several chain restaurants such as Chilis.

I visited often for the groceries store. My gripe with this mall is the lack of direction. They have some signs with just a few stores and parking lots listed and that's it. It needs way more directories. There was one interactive directory and that wasn't working.

I also had so much difficulty locating a restroom. I literally only found one restroom area in the entire mall. If others exist I didn't see them on my several visits to the mall. Basically more signs or directories would eliminate these issues.

The food court is nice but Sunday afternoon there wasn't a free seat available. If you go solo you can't really have someone hold a table for you. I ended up having to ask a solo diner if I could use one of the seats at...

It is one of the biggest malls here and it is a good safe place to eat and watch novies. The issue with this place is that it's very expensive all the stores here charge a lot for their items and you also have to pay for parking though the parking is a certain amount for 3 hours. The only problem with the parking is that it gets very full on weekends and you sometimes have to go to the neighboring parking lot which belongs to another building to park but they do have an agreement with the mall to allow parking there. You will never see people carrying a bunch of shopping bags even on Black Friday like you would in the states because everything is so pricey. People mostly come here just to eat some junk food and hang around walk around and Window Shop no one really buys much.
