We visited this restaurant on December 30th 2022. We were a party of 8, and bored of eating fajitas and burritos all day long for the past week. Taj Mahal was a delightful oasis in the middle of this ocean. Where to begin, fabulous ambience. Carefully curated pieces , reflecting the cultural fabric of India. Spectacular cutlery, every utensil carefully selected and magnificent peacocks meandering around the property, spreading their beautiful plumes of feathers.
Turning to food, every single dish, starting from appetizers paneer Tikka, panipuri was delightful.
We ordered few main courses, each gravy tastefully prepared, with ample portions and fresh, hot naans and flavourful biryani.
The tea at the end was like the elixir we had been looking for.
Turning to service, Dharmendar from Rajasthan and a gentleman from Uttarakhand were more than courteous and fulfilled our orders in no time. Also worth calling out were the tandoori cook in the open air tandoor who served us delicious breads and paneer with a huge smile.
My daughter was having a bit of sneezy trouble, perhaps from a night tour we took the night before. Without us asking, the team brought out a kada type concoction made out of honey and ginger in a to go box for her comfort. We were really touched.
Turning to price, it was one of the pricier restaurants but well worth every single penny.
Highly recommended if you are visiting San jose costa rica.

Read moreI had an exceptional dining experience at Taj Mahal in Costa Rica, one of the finest Indian restaurants located in Escazú. The food is freshly prepared, which means it takes a little longer to arrive, but the wait is absolutely worth it. Every bite is bursting with fresh, authentic flavors, making the experience truly memorable.
They offer a complimentary starter of crunchy namkeen served with three types of chutneys: a zesty coriander chutney, a tangy tamarind chutney, and a sweet and fruity mango chutney. This thoughtful touch sets the tone for the meal ahead.
As for the dishes, the paneer tikka appetizer was perfectly spiced, tender, and full of flavor. The tandoori roti and naan, cooked fresh on an outdoor grill, were soft, warm, and had that unmistakable smoky flavor. Watching them being prepared was an added treat! The vegetable handi, dal, and palak kofta were absolutely delicious, with complex, rich flavors that made each dish stand out.
The ambiance is equally impressive, with elegant decor and a spacious layout that enhances the overall experience. One of the highlights is the swing at the entrance, which is perfect for taking pictures and adds a unique charm to the place.
Taj Mahal in Escazú is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. The combination of outstanding food, a welcoming atmosphere, and beautiful surroundings make it a must-visit for Indian cuisine lovers. Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant on our way back from a hike, expecting a typical Indian dining experience — but it turned out to be so much more. From the moment we stepped in, everything felt thoughtfully curated, from the warm welcome to the charming ambience.
The food presentation was truly exceptional — every detail was carefully considered, whether it was serving tandoor with hot coals or bringing out tea in clay pots. A special mention to Bharat Choudary, our waiter, who greeted us warmly and recommended dishes that perfectly matched our preferences.
As the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover — from the outside, you’d never guess how delightful this place really is. We sat in the back section of the restaurant, which has a serene garden vibe with beautiful peacocks wandering around — an absolute treat!
Yes, the prices are on the higher side, but every dish was worth it. The flavors, the presentation, and the overall experience made it feel like money well spent. Even the cocktails stood out, crafted with fresh juices and a lot of care.
Every single person in our group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you love Indian food or are looking to try it for the first time, this place is a must-visit. Huge applause to the team behind this restaurant — their dedication to every little detail makes this place an example of how a restaurant should be run.
