Disappointed - is probably the right word for this meal. The ambience was good (but note ambience is pretty much amazing across restaurants in Dubrovnik, in the small streets) but we really expected something outstanding having read the reviews - generally google reviews have been fairly good ones to go by, but certainly not in this case...but then again, I guess people's tastes are different. For us, it just didn't feel worth it. Was a pretty expensive meal for what we felt were pretty odd tastes
The starter (Szechuan prawns) were good but the mains (tried meatballs in curry sauce and the veg version) were not great. The meat balls felt like roundshaped burgers which were quite thick and hard while the sauce tasted pretty odd. I appreciate it's Asian fusion but it may have been fused a bit too much imho. We were really looking forward to the coconut tapioca pud (both coconut and tapioca are native to my birthplace) but never have I tasted something this bland. The dessert could have been better if the coconut was perhaps made into a chilled - souffle style with some pieces of tapioca to top up the taste, but Azur's version certainly didn't work for us.
Just didn't feel £25/head was a price worth paying for this one. Waiter and service were good, as was the ambience, and that's probably why I have gone with 3 stars than 2...as you really need more flavourful food in a restaurant to warrant...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I came here on our holiday. They managed to accommodate us last minute on a Saturday with a reservation which was greatly appreciated. Firstly the service was fantastic, our server Ivon was friendly, welcoming & very chatty - his service was not rushed at all compared to other places but instead took time helping us decide what we’d like & advised us on dishes. His knowledge of the local wines was brilliant. The starters for us were the star of the show, we had the pork belly tacos & spicy prawns - mouthwatering !! must not skip - the mains were also delicious, my boyfriend had the meatballs which were tender & full of flavour in red curry sauce with coconut milk which was spicy but creamy. I had the pan seared salmon which was great but the dish as a whole was simple and couldve had a sauce for me. Despite that, overall the food quality & wine was very very good and the whole experience was the best we have had so far in Dubrovnik. Setting is tranquil, feels secluded away from the touristy streets while you still sit within your own old town alley/street. Hoping to go again to try other parts on the menu! The value for money was great for the level of service you receive, i’d recommend Azur for this, quailty food, quality service and quality setting that doesnt break the bank. Again Ivan deserves a standing ovation for his amazing service! Would...
Read moreThis place is in a great quiet location on the sea side of old town, way up against the wall. There was plenty of outdoor seating and they had a great menu.
For starters I opted for the taco and my girlfriend got the prawns, they were both delicious and it left us excited.
For mains I got the chicken Katsu which was nice, but essentially it was a bit of chicken, sushi rice and sriracha sauce drizzled over it. My girlfriend got the seafood laksa, unfortunately it was all shellfish and squid so it lacked texture, it needed some white fish. The flavour of the broth was overpowered by the shell fish and it just tasted like fishy milk. The other thing is that the seafood had not been cleaned properly, there was so much sand in it so became unenjoyable.
Then the bill came and I was shocked, it was by far the most expensive meal we had in Croatia and the quality just didn't match it. It's a shame as this place definitely has the potential to be great, but the price was even expensive compared to UK...
