We tried all the recommended restaurants in Zagreb during our week there, and Gallo was the one meal that I kept thinking about. Being based in Boston, my bar for seafood is very high, and Gallo delivered!

The location in a courtyard is absolutely gorgeous especially in the evening.

We started with the seafood carpaccio which was unique, fresh, and tasty.

When I asked our waiter for a recommendation for mains, he sized me up and put together an off-menu item that’s a combination of various menu items…which ended up being an extremely delicious seafood platter with a bit of everything that was perfect for me. I’m going to be recreating this at home.

Service was warm and attentive. I can’t recommend Gallo enough. We came for a very late dinner close to 10 PM (note that their kitchen closes at this time!) and didn’t have to wait but if coming during peak dinner hours I’d...

A lovely worker in Rovinj recommended this place and even made a reservation for us. We are so glad he did; this restaurant is so tasty. Everything we had was delicious (beef soup, fish soup, grilled scallops, black fuzi truffle pasta, fish filet, & tiramisu).

Please note that restaurants want you to enjoy their food and take your time. If you're looking to be in and out in under an hour cause you have a jam-packed schedule, then I recommend a fast food spot.

Back to the restaurant: our waiter was kind and patient with us. He allowed us to ask questions and was in no rush for us to make a decision. When we did, he remembered the dishes were were sharing and had them separate the portions so we wouldn't need to reach over.

Highly recommend you make a...

A quiet little spot hidden in a courtyard basement — you’d never find it if you didn’t know it was there. Inside, it’s really cozy, and the service is elegant and friendly without being over the top.

I had the octopus salad, which was fine, but the turbot in lemon sauce was excellent. They recommended a great Istrian Chardonnay. That said, the overall wine list — and especially the selection by the glass — could definitely be more generous.

Prices are reasonable — like most places in Zagreb. Since I was there during a quiet time, the maître d’ shared the story behind the place, which was actually really interesting.

All in all, I haven’t seen another place like this in Zagreb. Definitely recommend...

Nice place! Service was good, although we were forced to sit outside. We tried the tomato soup, which was amazing. Easily the best tomato soup I’ve ever had. My boyfriend had the mushroom pasta. He thought the sauce was awesome, but the choice of pasta (short) was not the best. I had the pesto paffutelli. The pesto was pretty good, but my pasta was slightly raw and not that tasty. I felt that the pasta was taking away from the pesto. Regardless, it was a memorable meal. If you are in Zagreb, I still think this is a place worth visiting. Note: there is a “cover” charge for eating here. Not sure what/why that is charged, but it is. 18 kuna per person. Not terrible, but still unexpected.
