Read moreI am a middle-aged woman traveling solo and for the most part, my experience in Zagreb has been good. Since I leave tomorrow, I was looking for a nice place to enjoy the finally nice weather and have a coffee outdoors. I'm on foot so I googled places nearby and based on the great reviews, I went here. Found the alleyway and wandered into the courtyard which was happily the right place. Lots of empty tables, but being unsure of how it works (do I just sit or do I go inside where I can see 2 guys behind the counter) l had also read you could buy coffee beans, so I was thinking of getting some to take back for souvenir. I opted to walk in to where they were. They both continued to talked to each other and completely ignore me. I looked around and even went to the counter. They then turned their backs and started fiddling with some electronic device. Never once said anything to me. I left to spend my money elsewhere. Apparently, if you're an older American woman you don't exist. Too bad. I'm not sure what the deal is here. They may not like Americans? I bet they like our money though....

Now, I don’t mind paying a little extra for a good cup of coffee nor do I claim to be an expert on barista standards, but the drink we got was neither a cappuccino nor did its quality reflect any international barista standards. I can forgive an underwhelming cup of coffee (and have done so in the past) because everyone has bad days, but I cannot forgive shady business practices. I will not be...
